Position Summary

The Shipping and Receiving Supervisor oversees all daily inbound and outbound warehouse operations specific to aftermarket parts business. This is a hands-on, active leadership role requiring a balance between physical floor execution, team management, and logistics compliance. The ideal candidate will manage a small team of warehouse associates, operate material handling equipment safely, and optimize dock workflows to ensure the highest standards of safety, quality, and delivery.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Organizes, supervises, and directs the work of Parts stockroom, receiving and shipping personnel.
  • Develops, prepares and improves processes, procedures, and instructions regarding stockroom, receiving and shipping systems and procedures. 
  • Oversee the process for identifying and communicating parts and material status, including shortages, and resolves material issues to minimize downtime and operational delays.
  • Drives continuous improvement. Looks for and implements productivity improvements and material cost reductions.  
  • Monitors department performance, including KPIs such as productivity, accuracy, inventory levels, order fulfillment, and on-time shipping, and develops action plans to improve efficiency and overall results. 
  • Develop cycle count plans and oversee inventory cycle count activities.
  • Responsible for adhering to all ISO9001 procedures, work instructions and documentation.
  • Assist in interviewing and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing daily work; appraising performance including taking timely disciplinary actions; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
  • Collaborates and coordinates with other Ipsen USA facilities regarding but not limited to purchase orders, receipts, inventory transfers, shipments, transportation, inventory levels and transaction issues. 
  • Assign tasks to warehouse team members to meet daily shipping goals and receiving deadlines.
  • Train staff on warehouse safety protocols, standard operating procedures, and scanning systems.
  • Resolve inventory discrepancies, carrier disputes, and scheduling conflicts on the dock.
  • Adjust daily staffing schedules and dock hours to handle sudden spikes in inbound ordering or shipping rushes.
  • Safely operate sit-down forklifts, stand-up reach trucks, and electric pallet jacks to load or unload freight.
  • Ensures incoming shipments are properly inspected, verified, and accurately recorded in the ERP system.
  • Prepare freight manifests, schedule carrier pickups (UPS, FedEx, LTL), and wrap pallets securely for transit.
  • Document damaged incoming freight with photos, note discrepancies on the Bill of Lading (BOL), and file claims.
  • Oversees warehouse layout, storage strategies, and space utilization to maximize efficiency and inventory accessibility
  • Monitor and reorder essential shipping supplies like pallets, stretch wrap, banding, and boxes.
  • Coordinate the collection, documentation, and proper disposal of obsolete stock, core returns, or scrap metal.
  • Conduct daily pre-shift inspections of forklifts, dock doors, and leveling equipment to ensure OSHA compliance.
  • Document and report any warehouse accidents, near-misses, or property damage immediately to management.
  • Enforce the safe handling and correct storage of hazardous materials, liquids, or heavy unsecured components.
  • Maintain strict control over dock doors, verifying the identity of all external freight drivers before allowing facility entry.

Requirements

Education/Experience

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent required. Associates degree or other advanced education strongly preferred.  
  • 2+ years of proven shipping and receiving experience, with 1+ years in a lead or supervisory role in a manufacturing or industrial environment. 
  • Valid OSHA forklift certification required and maintained, advanced warehouse certification preferred (such as Lean and/or Six Sigma).
  • Proficiency with Warehouse Management Systems (WMS), Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software, and carrier/shipping platforms required; Syteline experience preferred.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. regularly and work standing up in a variable-temperature warehouse environment.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Strong communication skills; verbal, written as well as listening skills. Able to successfully communicate to various levels within the organization. 
  • Possess strong IT skills (such as MS Office, ERP, Export Document Software, etc.)
  • Possess a high level of professionalism when interacting with employees, management, or outside individuals.  
  • The successful candidate can manage numerous complex priorities simultaneously, with a “hands on” approach and style.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and successfully juggle competing priorities.
  • Possess a high level of attention to detail & accuracy, particularly with detailed shipping protocols.   
  • Possess strong influencing, problem solving and creative thinking skills. 
  • Possess strong integrity and ethical standards.
