Description

Roofing Sales Manager

Company: Venture Home Solar
Location: Stamford, CT (with travel to local branches)
Job Type: Full-Time

Position Overview

Venture Home Solar is seeking an experienced Roofing Operations Manager to lead and support all roofing-related aspects of our residential solar operations. This individual will serve as the company’s subject-matter expert on roofing, partnering closely with Sales, Operations, Project Management, and Customer Experience to ensure every roof is properly evaluated, every roofing project is completed successfully, and every customer receives clear, professional guidance.

The Roofing Operations Manager will help grow roofing revenue by equipping the Sales team with technical expertise, identifying legitimate roof-replacement opportunities, and supporting customer conversations. They will also oversee roofing installations, strengthen pre-installation risk analysis, and help resolve roof leaks and other roofing concerns efficiently and fairly.

The ideal candidate combines strong roofing knowledge with excellent operational, communication, problem-solving, and customer-service skills.

Key Responsibilities

Sales Support and Roofing Expertise

  • Serve as Venture Home Solar’s primary subject-matter expert on residential roofing systems, materials, installation practices, warranties, repair options, and replacement requirements.
  • Partner with the Sales team to evaluate roofing opportunities and provide accurate technical guidance throughout the sales process.
  • Help sales representatives explain roof condition, replacement needs, product options, project scope, and long-term value to homeowners.
  • Develop training materials, presentations, inspection guidelines, and other resources that help the Sales team confidently identify and sell qualified roofing projects.
  • Assist with complex customer conversations, proposals, pricing questions, and roofing recommendations.
  • Identify opportunities to incorporate roofing work into solar projects when replacement is necessary or beneficial.
  • Ensure roofing recommendations are technically sound, clearly documented, and aligned with the customer’s needs.

Roofing Project and Installation Management

  • Coordinate roofing projects from initial assessment through installation and final completion.
  • Work with internal teams, subcontractors, suppliers, and inspectors to keep projects on schedule and minimize delays.
  • Confirm that project scopes, material selections, measurements, permits, schedules, and customer expectations are accurate before installation.
  • Monitor installation quality, workmanship, safety, and compliance with applicable building codes, manufacturer requirements, and company standards.
  • Proactively identify potential project issues and take ownership of resolving them before they affect the customer or solar installation schedule.
  • Conduct or coordinate quality-control inspections and ensure outstanding items are addressed promptly.
  • Maintain accurate records of inspections, project decisions, change orders, installation results, warranties, and customer communications.
  • Support the development and management of a dependable network of qualified roofing contractors and suppliers.

Roof Risk Assessment and Solar Readiness

  • Partner with Operations to strengthen the company’s roof-risk evaluation process before solar installation.
  • Review site-survey information, inspection reports, photographs, roof age, roofing materials, structural concerns, and other relevant conditions.
  • Identify roofs that are unsafe, unsuitable, or unlikely to support the expected life of a solar system without repair or replacement.
  • Clearly document and escalate conditions such as active leaks, deteriorated decking, damaged shingles, structural concerns, inadequate remaining roof life, or previous installation defects.
  • Recommend the appropriate course of action, including repair, replacement, additional inspection, or engineering review.
  • Help prevent avoidable property damage, installation delays, warranty disputes, and costly rework by ensuring roofing risks are identified early.
  • Establish consistent standards for determining when a roof may proceed as-is and when corrective work is required before solar installation.

Customer Experience and Leak Resolution

  • Work closely with Project Management and Customer Experience to investigate roof leaks and other roofing concerns reported before, during, or after solar installation.
  • Respond to escalated roofing issues with urgency, professionalism, and empathy.
  • Coordinate inspections to determine the source and cause of a leak, including whether it is related to the roof’s existing condition, roofing workmanship, solar installation, flashing, penetrations, or another source.
  • Develop and communicate practical resolution plans, including repairs, contractor dispatch, warranty claims, remediation, or roof replacement when appropriate.
  • Maintain regular communication with customers and internal stakeholders until each issue is fully resolved.
  • Ensure customers receive clear explanations without unnecessary technical jargon or unfiltered contractor language.
  • When a roof replacement is warranted, educate the homeowner on available solutions and support the sales process in an honest, consultative manner.
  • Track recurring issues and use findings to improve inspection, installation, training, and quality-control processes.

Operational Leadership and Process Improvement

  • Create and maintain roofing procedures, inspection standards, installation requirements, escalation paths, and quality-control checklists.
  • Establish performance expectations for roofing contractors and monitor quality, responsiveness, cycle time, cost, safety, and customer satisfaction.
  • Track roofing operational metrics, including project volume, installation timelines, change orders, callbacks, leaks, warranty claims, gross margin, and customer outcomes.
  • Analyze trends and recommend process improvements that reduce risk, improve quality, increase roofing sales, and support profitable growth.
  • Collaborate across departments to ensure smooth handoffs between Sales, Operations, Project Management, Customer Experience, and field installation teams.
  • Stay current on roofing products, manufacturer specifications, warranty requirements, installation methods, and relevant building codes.
  • Promote a culture of accountability, safety, craftsmanship, and exceptional customer service.

Qualifications

  • Five or more years of experience in residential roofing, construction operations, project management, or a related field.
  • Strong technical knowledge of roofing systems, including asphalt shingles, underlayment, flashing, ventilation, decking, penetrations, repairs, and full roof replacement.
  • Experience managing roofing installations, subcontractors, vendors, schedules, and quality-control processes.
  • Ability to evaluate roof condition and determine repair, replacement, or additional inspection requirements.
  • Strong understanding of common roof-leak causes and experience coordinating investigations and resolutions.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain technical findings to sales representatives, operations teams, contractors, and homeowners.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and escalated customer situations simultaneously.
  • Strong judgment, attention to detail, organization, and follow-through.
  • Comfortable using project-management, CRM, inspection, and reporting tools.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to job sites within the assigned territory.
  • Ability to safely access residential job sites and roofs, subject to company safety policies.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting roofing work connected to residential solar installations.
  • Previous experience training or enabling a sales organization.
  • Roofing manufacturer certifications or relevant contractor licenses.
  • OSHA or other construction-safety training.
  • Experience developing contractor scorecards, inspection standards, or roofing quality-assurance programs.
  • Familiarity with permitting, insurance claims, warranties, and residential building codes.

Measures of Success

Success in this position will be measured by:

  • Growth in qualified roofing opportunities and completed roofing sales.
  • Accuracy and consistency of pre-solar roof assessments.
  • Reduction in avoidable installation delays, roof-related change orders, and post-installation issues.
  • Roofing project quality, timeliness, safety, and profitability.
  • Speed and effectiveness of leak investigations and customer resolutions.
  • Contractor performance and warranty-claim rates.
  • Customer satisfaction and cross-functional team feedback.
  • Effectiveness of roofing training and support provided to the Sales team.
