At Bermex, we are always looking for motivated individuals who enjoy working independently and outdoors to become part of our team.

About the Role

The Technical Training Manager reports to the Regional Operations Director – East and is responsible for developing and overseeing technical training for Line Locator Technicians I, II, and III supporting Bermex.

This role ensures technicians have the knowledge, skills, and training necessary to safely and accurately locate underground utilities. The Technical Training Manager works closely with Operations leadership to support employee development, field readiness, consistent locating practices, and compliance with company and client requirements.

What You’ll Do

Technical Training and Development

  • Develop and deliver standardized classroom and hands-on field training for Line Locator Technicians I, II, and III.
  • Train technicians on utility locating equipment, maps, 811 tickets, marking procedures, safety, and documentation requirements.
  • Develop and maintain training materials, instructional guides, and competency assessments.
  • Coordinate new-hire technical onboarding and ongoing technician development.
  • Evaluate training effectiveness and update programs based on operational needs and field performance.

Field Readiness and Quality

  • Conduct field evaluations to assess technician competency, locating accuracy, and readiness to work independently.
  • Identify skill gaps and provide targeted coaching, refresher training, and corrective instruction.
  • Partner with Operations leadership to address recurring locating errors, quality concerns, and preventable utility damages.
  • Provide technical guidance on complex locating situations, equipment, and updated procedures.
  • Support consistent field practices and performance expectations across project locations.

Safety and Compliance

  • Ensure training aligns with company policies, project requirements, applicable safety standards, and regulatory guidelines.
  • Partner with Operations and Safety to address training needs identified through incidents, damages, and field audits.
  • Support Operator Qualification (OQ) training and evaluations, where applicable.
  • Reinforce safe locating practices, damage prevention, and accurate field documentation.

Training Coordination and Reporting

  • Coordinate training schedules and resources with Operations leadership.
  • Maintain accurate training records, competency assessments, and required qualifications.
  • Track training completion, technician readiness, and recurring development needs.
  • Provide training updates and recommendations to the Regional Operations Director – East.

Other duties as assigned.
