WHO
A leading international law firm is seeking an Employment Disputes Associate to join its growing Hong Kong disputes practice. The team handles a mix of contentious and non-contentious employment matters alongside broader commercial litigation, with a particular emphasis on international employment law. The firm's clients include major multinational corporations across consumer goods, technology, and retail sectors. The successful candidate will report directly to a senior partner with over two decades of experience building a successful disputes practice in the region.
WHAT
This is a heavy-duty employment role — not occasional employment work alongside other practice areas. You will advise on a broad range of employment matters including employee disputes, disciplinary and grievance proceedings, employment contract drafting and review, ESOPs and RSUs, and the international elements of employment law such as cross-border secondments to Hong Kong and tripartite agreements. The role also involves exposure to general commercial litigation, including shareholder disputes and regulatory matters. You will work on matters with a significant international dimension, coordinating with offices across multiple jurisdictions and advising global clients on their Asia-Pacific employment law needs.
YOU
The successful candidate will be NQ to 4 years PQE. You must be Hong Kong admitted, though a Hong Kong admitted barrister will also be considered. Prior exposure to employment law is essential — whether gained in private practice or through relevant experience. Some background in general commercial litigation is advantageous but secondary to the employment focus. Above all, attitude is critical: you must be hardworking, proactive, and self-directed. The partner values original thinking and meticulous drafting — over-reliance on AI tools is not aligned with this role. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work directly with international clients are important.
