The Role
An exciting opportunity exists for an experienced Quality Specialist to join our Port Melbourne site on a 12-month maternity leave contract. Reporting to the Quality & Environment Manager, you will play a key role in driving food safety, quality, compliance, and environmental performance across manufacturing operations. Working closely with Production, Operations and cross-functional teams, you will lead quality investigations, support audit readiness, manage HACCP and environmental monitoring programs, and help foster a strong quality culture across the site.
Our Port Melbourne site is not only the home of Vegemite; it is also the home of other Australian iconic products, such as Bega Peanut Butter, Bega Simply Nuts, Zoosh. VEGEMITE has been proudly made in Port Melbourne, Australia since 1923.
Responsibilities
Act as the quality lead for manufacturing operations, managing quality incidents, investigations, CAPAs and compliance activities
Maintain HACCP, environmental monitoring, pathogen management and product testing programs
Conduct quality inspections, CCP/QCP verification, hygiene assessments and process audits
Support internal, customer and third-party audits while maintaining QMS compliance and audit readiness
Drive continuous improvement initiatives and provide technical guidance to strengthen food safety and quality culture
About you
Tertiary qualification in Food Science, Food Technology, Microbiology, or a related discipline
Demonstrated experience in Quality Assurance within a food manufacturing, FMCG, or related manufacturing environment
Strong understanding of HACCP, GMP, food safety systems, quality management standards, and regulatory requirements
Proven ability to lead root cause investigations and implement effective corrective and preventive actions
Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with experience supporting audits and maintaining compliance in a hands-on, proactive environment
