Reports to: Director of Nursing, Andrews Senior Care
Location: Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island
Hours of Work: Full-time, salaried
Join Us at an Exciting Time
Andrews Senior Care is opening a new 90-bed Long Term Care home in Charlottetown, and we're looking for a Director of Care to help lead the way — a new team, a new building, and the chance to shape a great place to work from day one. You won't be starting from scratch: our systems, policies, and standards are already built and proven, backed by more than 40 years caring for people across PEI and New Brunswick. Your focus is bringing them to life — support hiring and building a great team, getting everyone trained, and opening the doors together.
You’ll be surrounded by experienced leaders, including our Director of Nursing, who has been with Andrews for nearly two decades. If you have a positive mindset, are adaptable, and are excited to build a team while keeping resident care front and centre, we'd love for you to grow with us.
Why Join Andrews Senior Care
Everything we do is guided by three simple core values: Care, Team Work, and Experience. Andrews has cared for Islanders for more than 40 years, with homes across PEI and New Brunswick, and we're proud to be the only privately-owned Long-Term Care home in PEI to achieve Accreditation with Exemplary Standing from Accreditation Canada — proof the foundation you're stepping into is already strong. We're always looking to do things better, and we believe in creating a workplace where people feel valued, supported, and connected. From Team Appreciation Week and Family Day to our Christmas party and activities throughout the year, we make time to celebrate our people and enjoy being part of the team.
What You'll Be Responsible For
None of this starts from zero — you'll be implementing and building on frameworks that already exist.
Expansion Leadership (Primary Focus)
• Build a team culture that helps new team members thrive long after opening day.
• Bring our established staffing models, systems, and workflows to life in the new home.
• Roll out existing policies and care standards to meet legislation, Accreditation Canada, and Andrews' own benchmarks.
• Execute the opening readiness plan alongside the DON and GM, with milestones already mapped out.
• Partner with Senior Management, People & Culture, and Real Estate on space planning, equipment, and logistics.
• Team hiring, onboarding, and development of RNs, LPNs, and Caregivers for the new home — recruitment is already underway.
Community Care Oversight – Operational and established.
• Provide leadership and strategic direction to the Community Care Manager, who runs day-to-day operations of the 80-bed home.
• Help keep standards and culture consistent across both the established Community Care operation and the new expansion.
Care Quality, Compliance & Operations
• Lead quality improvement, audits, and risk management in collaboration with the Director of Nursing.
• Prepare for inspections and support ongoing Accreditation Canada readiness.
• Support effective staffing, resource use, and cost management within the home, with guidance from the finance and operations teams
• Foster positive relationships with residents and families, working collaboratively to develop individualized plans of care and respond effectively to changing needs or concerns
The Support Behind You
• A network of experienced Directors of Care who understand what it takes to lead a home and are happy to share knowledge and support along the way, along with strategic guidance from our Director of Nursing, General Manager, and support teams.
• A dedicated in-house Trainer (RN) with developed training modules for onboarding and ongoing learning.
• A proactive Recruitment Team focused on helping you hire the right people.
• Experienced Maintenance and Real Estate teams handling construction and facility readiness.
What You Will Bring To The Team
• Current registration as a Registered Nurse (RN) with the College of Registered Nurses of Prince Edward Island.
• Leadership experience in long-term care or a related healthcare setting; experience opening a new care home is a strong asset.
• Strong clinical judgment, organization, and follow-through.
• A collaborative leadership style and the ability to build positive relationships with residents, families, and team members.
• The ability to balance resident care, team needs, and the operational demands of a busy care environment.
Benefits & Compensation
Salary for this position ranges from $100,000 to $110,000, based on experience. Our benefits package includes:
• Health, dental, and life insurance, plus drug coverage
• A pension plan with employer matching of up to 4% of your contributions
• Gym membership reimbursement
• An employee discount card offering local savings at pharmacies, restaurants, and more
