JOB SUMMARY

Coordinates activities of personnel at assigned base(s) and collaborates with the Clinical, Aviation, Maintenance, Business Development, and Membership Departments. Essential functions include administrating the financial, marketing, growth and business aspects for the assigned base(s).

JOB DUTIES

Administrative:

  • Coordinates the daily base activities of the Flight Nurse and Flight Paramedics by interacting with base staff multiple times a month.
  • Collaborates with a multidisciplinary Leadership team across the state/ region to limit interruptions of service to rural communities of Alaska
  • Acts as a good-will ambassador for Guardian Flight, Global Medical Response, and the air-medical industry with community and agency partners
  • Manages day to day functions as it relates to base operations
  • Leads a dynamic clinical team of RNs and paramedics, working in remote locations
  • Collaborates with Assistant Chief Pilot for pilot activities
  • Assures proper coverage for all medical shifts
  • Assume AOC (Administrator On Call) duties as required
  • Reviews electronic payroll of medical crew for accuracy and submits for approval before the stated deadline
  • Receives all operation and clinical complaints or issues from medical crews, aviation staff, communications center staff, customers and patients. Resolves problems or collaborates for resolution of issues as they occur with feedback to appropriate persons or refers the issue to the appropriate person for resolution
  • Recommends and implements changes to improve efficiency and effectiveness of medical staff, base operation performance, and state healthcare system performance
  • Assures proper use, maintenance, and repair of medical equipment and supplies
  • Participates in the evaluation of new equipment/supplies and oversees inventory and supplies
  • Holds responsibility and oversees the base spending, remains within budget for the base and submits the required reports as defined by policy
  • Responsible for the maintenance, cleanliness, and organization of facilities
  • Oversees coordination with base leadership to facilitate monthly meetings with ownership of prior agenda, meeting minutes, and communication of minutes to base staff.
  • Ensures crew members follow policy for work related injuries and exposures
  • Submits detailed reports to the RD or VPO, as requested.
  • Collaborates with the Clinical Manager, Clinical Educator, or Medical Director to resolve any deficiencies in delivery of clinical care
  • Collaborates with the Communications Manager, other PD’s and the RD on Communications Center issues
  • Reviews monthly CQI reports, refers those with deficiencies to appropriate Clinical Manager, Medical Director or Director of Clinical Services
  • Participates in monthly CQMP processes and takes appropriate steps to ensure compliance.

Staff Supervision:

  • Delegates assignments and holds employees accountable for work completion
  • Develops individual medical crew members’ talents by promoting professional growth, education, involvement, and decision making
  • Holds employees accountable for medical crew licensure, certifications, and clinical requirements
  • Ensures the required credentials are submitted by the base staff to the appropriate licensure systems, including internal tracking systems
  • Is accountable for compliance of  required OSHA training and TB testing to meet corporate and government compliance
  • Ensures narcotic counts are completed per policy; all staff document narcotic use per policy; and reports any discrepancies immediately to RD if concerned for diversion or malice.
  • Interviews and hires candidates for Flight Nurse and Flight Paramedic positions at the assigned base
  • Assists new employees with completion of the orientation process. Monitors new employee performance by assigning a preceptor and working closely with the Clinical Manager to ensure successful transition into the position, throughout the orientation process.
  • Prepares annual employee evaluations for assigned medical staff
  • Engages in performance improvement process with employees through coaching and progressive discipline, as needed. Carries out disciplinary action with input from the RD, VPO and Human Resources
  • Resource for the dissemination of new information and problem resolution for the medical staff
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the company's policies and applicable laws

Departmental Collaboration:

  • Participates in the interview process for the selection of medical crew members, pilots , and/or mechanics to be assigned to the base as requested by other department leads
  • Collaborates with the Assistant Chief Pilot and Regional Maintenance Manager to ensure the highest level of aircraft reliability and seeks assistance from the RD as needed
  • Collaborates with the Aircraft Maintenance team when scheduling maintenance to minimize out of service (OOS) time.
  • Collaborates with the Assistant Chief Pilot and Regional Maintenance Manager for issues involving aviation or maintenance personnel
  • Collaborates with department lead as it relates to the inventory and maintenance of flight helmets assigned to the base

Marketing and Business Development:

  • Collaborates with GFL Business Development to identify and establish strong business relationships with all customers within the assigned area
  • Coordinates customer relations/marketing activities for the base staff
  • Ensures that relationship building activities occur with each customer through personal visits from the Program Director
  • Orders marketing supplies per company policy within approved budget and ensures appropriate use of these supplies
  • Provides approval for all PR activities involving use of the base aircraft
  • Attends local and regional EMS/Hospital/advisory group meetings
  • Other essential functions as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

Education/Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Associates/ Batchelor’s Degree preferred
  • Five years air medical crew or adjacent experience preferred
  • Previous leadership experience preferred
  • Alaska residency or availability to relocate required
  • Must have a valid Driver’s License

  • Exposed to loud noise levels requiring headphones while in-flight and at a moderate level when in a hospital environment.
  • Frequently required to travel within region of assignment

Physical Demands:

  • Reach with hands and arms; speak and hear.
  • Frequently required to sit.
  • Required to stand, walk, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, and smell.
  • Lift and/or move up to 150 pounds cumulative with assistance
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distant vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Must be able to work a flexible work schedule
