Position Overview

Massachusetts Advocates Standing Strong (MASS) is seeking a full-time Director of Training & Program Development to oversee and strengthen MASS's statewide training initiatives, leadership development programs, operational systems, and program coordination efforts.

This position combines strategic training leadership with project management, organizational coordination, and program development responsibilities. The Director will work closely with the Executive Director, staff team, self-advocate leaders, trainers, and community partners to support the continued growth and effectiveness of MASS programs across the state.

The ideal candidate is highly organized, collaborative, mission-driven, and committed to disability rights, self-advocacy, accessibility, and inclusive leadership. This role requires someone who can support both high-level program development and day-to-day coordination of trainings, systems, and staff support.


Work Schedule, Location, and Compensation

This is a full-time position, Monday-Friday, 9:00 AM-5:00 PM. The role requires 2 days per week in person at the MASS office (200 Portland St., Boston), with remaining time worked at other offsite training locations and your home office.

Some schedule flexibility is required (approximately 3-4 times per year) to support major events, including the MASS Annual Self-Advocacy Conference (currently scheduled for October 17, 2026), statewide trainings, and other special events of the organization.

Mileage is reimbursed for statewide travel at .62 cents per mile (this does not include reimbursement for your regular in-person office hours at the MASS office).

The annual salary for this position is $63,500 to $67,500 depending on qualifications and experience. The organization does not provide health insurance, we provide a monthly pro-rated stipend of $135 to employees working full-time 40 hours per week. Employees are eligible for 10 days of vacation in their first year after their first 6 months of employment. Sick time accrues at 1 day per month. The organization provides 3 personal days along with 13 observed holidays each year.


Key Responsibilities

Training Leadership & Program Development

  • Provide leadership, coordination, and oversight for MASS training initiatives, including SALS, I-SALS, regional trainings, orientation activities, and other leadership development opportunities
  • Build and maintain supportive relationships with trainers, peer trainers, training teams, self-advocates, and partner organizations
  • Coordinate and facilitate weekly training team meetings, practices, supervision, and resource-sharing sessions both in person and on Zoom
  • Oversee training schedules, orientation activities, training materials, accessibility supports, and communication with participants and partner organizations
  • Coordinate and support in-person, hybrid, and virtual trainings across Massachusetts
  • Work collaboratively with staff and self-advocate leaders to identify and develop new training and leadership opportunities
  • Maintain and strengthen relationships with external training partners, agencies, organizations, and community collaborators
  • Serve as a lead organizational resource on training curriculum, training materials, accessibility practices, and facilitation supports
  • Review, improve, and update training curriculum, scripts, presentations, and related materials to ensure accessibility, consistency, and quality
  • Coordinate logistics for trainings and events including technology, accessibility accommodations, schedules, materials, and communication

Operations & Project Management

  • Coordinate and manage contracts, deliverables, project timelines, and reporting in collaboration with staff and leadership
  • Develop and maintain project work plans, timelines, and tracking systems to support successful completion of organizational goals and grant deliverables
  • Oversee day-to-day coordination of assigned projects, meetings, trainings, and program activities
  • Maintain shared organizational systems for tracking schedules, tasks, communications, and program information using Google Workspace and related tools
  • Prepare internal reports related to trainings, projects, organizational initiatives, and program outcomes
  • Support planning and implementation of major MASS events, including the Annual Self-Advocacy Conference, regional programs, statewide meetings, and leadership initiatives
  • Work collaboratively with the Executive Director and MASS Board to strengthen organizational systems, policies, procedures, and workflows

Team Leadership & Organizational Coordination

  • Support supervision and coordination of assigned staff, training coordinator, training teams, and administrative support staff
  • Facilitate team meetings, set agendas, monitor follow-up items, and support staff in meeting priorities and deadlines
  • Assist with onboarding, orientation, scheduling, and organizational communication processes
  • Support organization-wide communication and coordination related to trainings, events, and program activities
  • Foster a collaborative, inclusive, and accessible team environment centered on self-advocacy and leadership development

Data Management & Organizational Systems

  • Maintain and improve systems for project tracking, document management, knowledge sharing, and organizational communication
  • Support data collection, reporting, and documentation related to grants, trainings, and organizational initiatives
  • Ensure materials, systems, and communications are organized, accessible, and easy to use
  • Support organizational data management and confidentiality practices consistent with legal and organizational standards

Additional Responsibilities

  • Participate in statewide meetings, trainings, conferences, advocacy activities, and collaborative initiatives as needed
  • Assist with additional projects and organizational priorities as assigned by the Executive Director or designee

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree, Master's Preferred
  • Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in self-advocacy, disability rights, community organizing, leadership development, training coordination, human services, project management, or related experience
  • Experience facilitating trainings, meetings, or group activities in person and/or virtually
  • Strong organizational, communication, and project coordination skills
  • Experience managing schedules, timelines, and multiple priorities simultaneously
  • Commitment to accessibility, inclusion, and self-advocate leadership
  • Experience using Google Workspace platforms including Google Docs, Sheets, Calendar, Zoom, and related technology tools
  • Ability to work collaboratively with self-advocates, staff, community partners, and leadership
  • Ability to travel within Massachusetts for trainings, meetings, and events as needed
  • Supervisory or team coordination experience preferred
  • Lived experience with disability and/or experience working within the disability rights or self-advocacy movement is strongly valued
