Description
Own the drawings from concept to permit. Build the standards. Grow the team behind you.
The snapshot
This is a full-time, work-from-home role for a Philippines-based architect or senior draftsperson who knows Australian residential work inside out. You would be working with an established Australian home builder that designs and constructs new homes, and they are bringing their architecture work in-house for the first time. That makes this a foundational hire: you would be the first architectural person in the business, setting the standards and ways of working that everyone after you follows. You will report to the business owner and work closely with them day to day.
The work is hands-on and technical. It is real drafting and documentation, not high-concept design, and it runs all the way through to council and permit stage. You will also talk to clients directly, so you need to be comfortable in front of people, not just behind the drawings.
What you will actually do
Drafting and working drawings
- Take a project from a design brief or rough plan through to permit-ready working drawings and construction documentation.
- Produce site plans, floor plans, elevations, sections, and specifications to the detail needed for a building permit and for construction to start.
- Keep your files, versions, and drawing sets clean and organized so anyone can pick up where you left off.
Council, CDC, and permits
- Prepare and lodge planning permit applications to local councils, and CDC (Complying Development Certificate) applications, making sure everything is complete and compliant before it goes in.
- Work through Victorian council processes: respond to requests for information, handle conditions, and manage the back-and-forth through to permit issue.
Talking to people
- Join client meetings to understand what they want, walk them through design decisions, and represent the business well.
- Coordinate with surveyors, private certifiers, and engineers so everyone has what they need to keep the project moving.
Setting up how things run
- Build the templates, checklists, and drawing standards the business does not have yet, so the work is consistent and repeatable as it grows.
Building a team, in time
- As the workload grows, help hire, onboard, and mentor a small offshore drafting team, and set the standard for the quality their work needs to meet.
What you need to bring
These are the real must-haves. If you have these, you should apply.
- Solid experience on Australian residential projects, taken through to permit stage. This is essential because the whole role runs on Australian standards, council processes, and permit pathways, so experience from other markets will not translate here.
- A working understanding of council planning processes, CDC pathways, and the NCC (National Construction Code) as they apply to Australian residential builds.
- Strong drafting and documentation skills: you can produce working drawings and permit-ready plans to a high standard on your own, without someone checking every line.
- Confident, clear communication in English, with real experience dealing directly with clients and other people on a project. This matters as much as the technical side.
- Proficiency in industry-standard architectural software (for example AutoCAD, ArchiCAD, or Revit). The business will buy the tools around your preferred platform, so just tell us what you work in.
Nice to have
This role is open to Philippines-based applicants only, working from home. It is full-time, Monday to Friday, 6:00 AM to 3:00 PM Philippine time, which keeps you in step with the Australian team through their working day. The business provides the work-from-home equipment you need, including a laptop and monitor, set up and secured before your first day.
The setup
- Experience specifically under Victorian planning guidelines and with Victorian councils.
- Experience with a residential or volume home builder, so you understand how those businesses actually run.
- Leadership experience, or clear potential to mentor and build a small team down the track.
- Having set up drafting standards, templates, or processes somewhere before.
What is in it for you
You would be employed properly and looked after. Alongside your salary, here is what comes with the role:
- HMO health cover, with one dependent covered for free.
- Group life insurance.
- Paid leave credits.
- All government-mandated benefits handled for you: SSS, PhilHealth, Pag-IBIG, and your 13th month pay.
- Work-from-home equipment provided.
