Organization's Summary Statement:
The Artificial Intelligence Interdisciplinary Institute at Maryland (AIM; aim.umd.edu) has openings for instructional faculty positions to teach in its Bachelor of Arts (BA) in AI program, which focuses on providing students with the technical skills necessary to engage with contemporary AI in a meaningful way and with training in disciplines from the arts, humanities, and social sciences allowing them to understand, evaluate, and contribute to work in AI in a unique way. By combining hands-on technical expertise with critical insights from diverse disciplines, this program equips students to thoughtfully assess AI’s broader societal impact and shape its development in a human-centered way.
These openings are for Professional Track Faculty (non-tenure track) positions. All Professional Track Faculty members in AIM will work with our bright and amazing students and play a key role in teaching our artificial intelligence curricula. As members of AIM, successful applicants will join and help further our mission of defining and engaging in interdisciplinary AI education across all of the UMD College Park campus, and in building a thriving and inclusive AI community.
Strong candidates will be considered in all areas of AI that align with AIM’s BA in AI program. The BA in AI consists of a technical core of coursework and . Specializations will include: Ethics; Language and Cognition; Logic, Epistemology, and Machine Learning; Society, Culture and Technology; Design and User Experience; Law, Governance, and Policy; and Arts.
We are especially looking for candidates that are interested in actively participating in a strong community of AI-related scholars across disciplines.
Courses to be Taught: PHIL211 AI & Ethics, HCAI120 Programming for AI I, HCAI121 Programming for AI 2, HCAI200 Formal Methods in AI, HCAI300 Artificial Intelligence, HCAI301 Machine Learning
Physical Demands: Normal classroom teaching demands.
Preferences: PhD in-hand at the time of joining the University.
Minimum qualifications: Master's degree in the field of instruction or a related field, or equivalent professional experience in the field of instruction.
