The Department of Sociology at the University of New Hampshire seeks a Lecturer for a one-year appointment within the Sociology Department, beginning August 2026. This position carries a primary instructional responsibility, requiring the incumbent to teach a broad range of undergraduate courses in sociology and justice studies. The role demands expertise commensurate with a terminal degree (Ph.D., ABD considered) in Sociology with teaching experience being strongly preferred.

Duties/Responsibilities
Teaching

  • Teach undergraduate courses in Sociology and Justice Studies, including but not limited to introductory and upper-level courses based on departmental needs.

  • Develop and deliver course materials, assignments, exams, and applied learning activities that support student learning outcomes.

  • Maintain regular communication with students, provide timely feedback, hold office hours, and evaluate student performance.

  • Contribute to curriculum quality through course preparation, assessment, and continuous improvement of instructional materials.

Requirements
Minimum Acceptable Education & Experience:

  • Terminal degree (Ph.D., or ABD) in Sociology or Criminology; ABD candidates will be considered

  • Evidence of excellence in undergraduate teaching.

  • Ability to teach a broad range of courses in sociology, law and society, and theories of law.


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Strong knowledge of sociology, criminology, and law and society in an academic field.

  • Ability to design and deliver effective undergraduate instruction across sociology and law and society topics.

  • Effective oral and written communication skills.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, students, and external partners.

  • Ability to contribute to departmental and university service.

  • Commitment to supporting a respectful and inclusive educational environment.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated ability to teach multiple areas within law and society and legal philosophy.

Compensation Pay Range:

$55,400

The rank of the selected candidate will depend upon the candidate’s qualifications.
