About the Role
The Senior Technical Writer will own the development and maintenance of software and product documentation throughout the product lifecycle.
This includes planning documentation requirements, gathering technical information, creating and editing content, managing review and approval cycles, and ensuring materials remain current as products and features evolve.
The role will also help strengthen documentation processes, templates, style standards, and content governance across the organization.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop clear and comprehensive documentation for software products, features, integrations, and technical solutions.
- Create and maintain user guides, administrator guides, configuration guides, release notes, knowledge-base articles, FAQs, and troubleshooting materials.
- Translate complex technical concepts into accessible content for technical and non-technical audiences.
- Partner with product, engineering, implementation, support, and consulting teams to gather and validate information.
- Participate in product demonstrations, planning sessions, and release discussions to identify documentation requirements.
- Manage documentation projects from initial scoping through drafting, review, approval, publication, and ongoing maintenance.
- Review existing content for accuracy, usability, consistency, and opportunities for improvement.
- Establish and maintain documentation standards, templates, terminology, and style guidelines.
- Ensure documentation is aligned with product releases and communicated within agreed timelines.
- Organize content so users can quickly find and understand the information they need.
- Incorporate diagrams, screenshots, workflows, and other visual elements where they improve understanding.
- Use feedback, support trends, and user needs to continuously improve documentation.
- Mentor or provide editorial guidance to colleagues contributing to technical content.
- Support the evaluation and improvement of documentation tools, platforms, and publishing processes.
Experience and Qualifications
- Five or more years of experience in technical writing, preferably within a software, SaaS, technology, or enterprise solutions environment.
- Demonstrated experience creating software and product documentation for a range of audiences.
- Strong ability to understand complex systems, workflows, and technical concepts.
- Excellent written English, editing, proofreading, and information-architecture skills.
- Experience collaborating with developers, product managers, consultants, and other technical subject matter experts.
- Strong project-management and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Experience working within an agile product-development or software-release environment.
- Ability to work independently, ask effective questions, and identify missing or unclear information.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy and consistency.
- Experience using documentation, content-management, collaboration, and version-control tools.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience documenting enterprise business applications, cloud platforms, integrations, APIs, or configurable software solutions.
- Familiarity with structured authoring, content reuse, documentation-as-code, or single-source publishing.
- Experience with tools such as Confluence, SharePoint, Git, Markdown, MadCap Flare, Paligo, or similar platforms.
- Experience creating diagrams, process flows, screenshots, or instructional media.
- Understanding of user experience, accessibility, and content-design principles.
- Experience developing or governing documentation standards across multiple teams or products.
