Description
This job requires 4 days a week in an M&T corporate office.
Locations across the M&T footprint are open.
Overview:
Responsible for the quality and efficiency of the underwriting for Business Banking. Interacts on a daily basis with the Credit teams and sales partners regarding the underwriting of Business Banking loan requests.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Responsible for the day to day activities of a team of Underwriters and/0r Portfolio Managers to include the quality and efficiency of the underwriting
- Serve as the point person for work requests, prioritizes and assigns work, and monitors work flow..
- Support various segments in terms of credit functions.
- Manage/Support the sales override process
- Oversee the training of new underwriters and/or portfolio manager as required.
- Provides ongoing training to the department.
- Develop training materials and various forms.
- Maintain work logs and prepare monthly productivity reports for management, and other reports, as needed.
- Coordinate updates to the divisional processes and policies, writes procedures and develops analysis templates as needed.
- Resolve any policy, procedure, accounting or credit issues that occur.
- Participate in various Departmental projects associated with the Credit Function.
- Maintain an in-depth knowledge of accounting pronouncements and the effect on Bank credits.
- Exercise the usual authority as manager concerning staffing, performance appraisals, salary recommendations, promotions, hiring, terminations, performance management, and training, coaching and mentoring.
- Adhere to applicable compliance/operational risk controls in accordance with Company or regulatory standards and policies.
- Promote an environment that supports belonging and reflects the M&T Bank brand.
- Maintain M&T internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators as applicable.
- Complete other related duties as assigned.
Supervisory/ Managerial Responsibilities:
Supervises and mentors a team (up to 7), comprised of credit staff, portfolio managers, and administrative staff.
Education and Experience Required:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related discipline and minimum of 5 years' commercial credit experience or relevant analytical with a strong knowledge of accounting principles including 2 years coaching/training/mentoring or work leadership experience
OR in lieu of degree
a combined minimum of 9 years' higher education and/or work experience including a minimum of 5 years commercial credit experience with strong knowledge of accounting principles including 2 years' coaching/training/mentoring or work leadership experience.
Proficiency with personal computers and relevant software packages.

Commitment to meeting the needs of both the internal and external customers of the department.
Excellent communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills).
Ability to maximize efficiency and maintain the consistent quality of the work produced by the credit analysis team.
Exhibit a strong work ethic and consistently meet deadlines.
Extensive knowledge of Bank's credit policies and procedures.
Prior experience in a sales role
M&T Bank is committed to fair, competitive, and market-informed pay for our employees. The pay range for this position is $89,600.00 - $149,300.00 Annual (USD). The successful candidate’s particular combination of knowledge, skills, and experience will inform their specific compensation.
