Description
The Production Engineer (Welding) plans, drives and reports welding production across the yard for Saudi Aramco CRPO offshore projects. The role makes sure welding is delivered on schedule, to approved procedures, and with low repair rates, working closely with construction, QA/QC, NDT and planning teams.
Key Responsibilities
Welding production planning
- Plan daily and weekly welding activities in line with the project schedule and look-ahead plans.
- Prepare welding sequences for jackets, nodes, braces, legs, piles and topside structures to control distortion and meet dimensional tolerances.
- Estimate welding man-hours, consumables and equipment needed for each work front.
Welder and resource management
- Allocate joints to welders according to their qualification range, process, material and thickness.
- Maintain the welder qualification matrix and track welder continuity and performance.
- Coordinate welding machines, preheat equipment, and consumable storage and issue.
Procedure compliance
- Ensure all welding follows approved WPS/PQR and Saudi Aramco standards (SAES, SAEP, SATIP, SAIC).
- Check that preheat, interpass temperature, heat input and consumable control are applied correctly.
- Support welding procedure qualification and welder qualification tests.
Productivity and quality control
- Track welding productivity, joint progress and inches welded against targets.
- Monitor weld repair rates by welder, process and joint type, and lead root cause analysis and corrective actions.
- Coordinate with QA/QC for fit-up and visual inspections, NDT clearance and repair release.
Reporting and coordination
- Prepare daily and weekly welding production reports and KPI dashboards.
- Work with construction, planning, engineering and NDT teams to clear bottlenecks and protect critical-path activities.
- Support client inspections, audits and RFIs related to welding.
HSE
- Enforce safe welding and hot-work practices, including permits, fume control and fire watch.
- Take part in toolbox talks, job safety analyses and safety walk-throughs.
Requirements
- Mandatory: proven experience on Saudi Aramco CRPO or LTA offshore fabrication projects. Candidates without this will not be considered.
- Bachelor's degree or diploma in Mechanical, Welding, Metallurgical or Production Engineering. Must be attestable for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
- At least 8 years in welding production or welding engineering, including at least 4 years in an offshore fabrication yard.
- Hands-on experience welding jackets, tubular nodes, TKY joints, heavy plate and topside structures.
- Working knowledge of AWS D1.1, API RP 2A, ASME Section IX and Section V, and Saudi Aramco standards (SAES, SAEP, SATIP, SAIC).
- Experience with SMAW, GTAW, FCAW and SAW processes and their production rates.
- Proven track record of tracking welding productivity and reducing repair rates.
- Good English, written and spoken. Proficiency in MS Excel for production tracking and reporting.
Preferred Qualifications
- CSWIP 3.1 Welding Inspector or 3.2.1 Senior Welding Inspector, AWS CWI, or an IWE/IWT diploma.
- Saudi Aramco approval or Aramco CBT pass in welding.
- ASNT Level II in one or more NDT methods.
- Experience with automated or mechanized welding (for example SAW tractors or orbital welding).
- Currently in Saudi Arabia with a transferable Iqama, or available at short notice.
Key Competencies
- Production focus: drives output against targets, not just compliance.
- Analytical: uses repair-rate and productivity data to find and fix problems.
- Leadership: directs welding foremen and welders and earns their respect on the shop floor.
- Communication: works well with QA/QC, client inspectors and multinational teams.
- Safety: models and enforces safe hot-work practices.
