Description
About Us
Harris Energy Solutions LLC (HES) is a nationwide Energy Consulting Services firm. HES offers a full suite of consulting services, including Building Energy Modeling, Renewable Energy Consulting, Master Planning, Energy Audit, Building Commissioning, and Building Retro-Commissioning. We pride ourselves on the work we perform and the services we provide. HES is hiring our first Business Development Lead to join our team and grow our work.
Position Overview
We are seeking a highly motivated Business Development Lead based in any of our offices. The Business Development Lead will own the firm's pipeline: finding opportunities, building client relationships, creating proposal opportunities, and winning work. The Business Development Lead will report to the President and work closely with our senior engineers and project managers, who will stay involved in selling and delivering the work.
This is a hands-on role. The ideal candidate will need to understand energy markets and technical services well enough to have credible conversations with facility directors, utility program managers, public agencies, architect/engineering firms, and building owners. The ideal candidate is organized, persistent, and comfortable with high-volume outreach.
Key Responsibilities
Systematic Outreach
- Identify and qualify opportunities across target markets.
- Design and run a repeatable outreach program, building target lists by market sector, geography, and client type.
- Track RFPs, utility program solicitations, grant and incentive funding rounds, and regulatory proceedings that create demand for our services.
- Utilize the CRM and report pipeline status, win rates, and forecasts to leadership.
- Track which lists, channels, and messages produce responses, and refine the outreach program accordingly
Client Relationships
- Build and maintain relationships with decision-makers, and expand work with existing clients.
- Develop teaming relationships with engineering firms, contractors, developers, and other consultants.
Conferences and Industry Events
- Represent HES at industry conferences, trade shows, and networking events relevant to energy consulting, such as AEE, ASHRAE, USGBC, BOMA, IFMA, and APPA national and local chapter events, as well as state and regional energy efficiency and clean energy conferences.
- Attend utility and program administrator events, including trade ally meetings, program kickoffs, and stakeholder sessions.
- Attend public agency vendor outreach events, pre-bid and pre-proposal conferences, and M/WBE and small business matchmaking events.
- Build and maintain an annual calendar of target events with leadership, and schedule meetings with prospects and partners ahead of each event.
- Identify speaking, sponsorship, and exhibiting opportunities for HES.
- Enter every new contact from an event into the CRM and follow up on a set schedule.
Marketing and Positioning
- Shape the firm's market messaging, case studies, website content and thought leadership with technical staff.
- Help leadership set annual growth targets and decide which markets and services to prioritize.

Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in business, engineering, marketing, communications, energy policy or related field.
- 5+ years in business development, client management or consulting in energy, engineering, environmental services or related field.
- A track record of winning work, ideally including HES target clients and markets.
- Hands-on experience setting up or managing a CRM platform, including data structure, pipeline stages, and reporting.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; comfortable initiating contact by phone, email, and in person.
- Organized, self-directed, and metrics-driven, with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, growing company.
- Proficiency with MS Office and LinkedIn; familiarity with email outreach and marketing automation tools is a plus.
- Ability and willingness to travel 30–50% nationwide.
Preferred
- An existing network among utilities, agencies, or institutional energy buyers, ideally in New York, New Jersey, and/or Texas.
