Job Summary
AltairStrickland LLC was founded in 1976 as a mechanical contracting firm specializing in serving the petrochemical industry and is part of the EMCOR Industrial Services group of companies.
We are seeking a full-time Lead Estimator to support capital projects, maintenance, turnarounds, and industrial construction opportunities from our Corporate office.

The role is responsible for developing accurate cost estimates, analyzing bid documents, evaluating labor and material requirements, and preparing competitive proposals for refinery, petrochemical, chemical, and other industrial clients.
The successful candidate must possess a strong working knowledge of pressure vessels, heat exchangers, towers, piping systems, structural steel, and other mechanical equipment commonly encountered in industrial maintenance, construction, and turnaround projects, with the ability to apply this knowledge to scope evaluation, estimating, and proposal development.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Receive, review, organize, prioritize, and track customer Requests for Proposal (RFPs) , bid invitations, and other proposal inquiries.
- Develop detailed cost estimates and competitive bid proposals for capital, maintenance, and turnaround projects.
- Collaborate with Operations to develop execution plans, including work activities, labor requirements and hours, sequencing, schedules, productivity assumptions, and contingencies necessary to complete the scope defined in the client's RFP.
- Perform quantity takeoffs and labor productivity analyses to support accurate and competitive estimates.
- Review and evaluate drawings, specifications, scope documents, and other bid information to determine project requirements.
- Solicit, review, and analyze vendor and subcontractor quotations for incorporation into project estimates and proposals.
- Identify and document project risks, assumptions, exclusions, clarifications, and potential opportunities during the estimating process.
- Prepare and support the development of bid deliverables, ensuring proposals are accurate, complete, timely submitted, and professionally presented.
- Participate in estimate reviews, bid strategy meetings, and project handoffs with Operations and other supporting departments.
- Conduct site visits and field walks at client facilities, as necessary or requested, to evaluate field conditions, verify scope requirements, and document information necessary to support the estimating and proposal process.
- Maintain appropriate communication with customers throughout the bidding process and maintain an accurate, up-to-date proposal log reflecting the status of new, active, submitted, and pending proposals.
Qualifications
- A bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Business, or a related field is preferred; equivalent industry experience will also be considered.
- A minimum of five (5) years of estimating experience within the petrochemical, chemical, refining, or related industrial sectors is required.
- Strong working knowledge of mechanical construction, maintenance, and turnaround activities, including piping systems, heat exchangers, pressure vessels, and related mechanical equipment and applications.
- Proficiency with industry estimating software and computer applications, including MS Platforms & Primavera (P6) to prepare estimates, proposals, correspondence, and related documentation.
- Demonstrated ability to interpret drawings, specifications, scopes of work, bid documents, and other technical information used in developing project estimates and proposals.
- Strong analytical and mathematical skills, including the ability to evaluate labor hours, productivity, quantities, material requirements, pricing, schedules, and other information necessary to develop accurate estimates.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with customers, management, field personnel, vendors, subcontractors, and other internal and external stakeholders.
- Ability to manage multiple estimates, priorities, customer communications, deadlines, and schedules simultaneously while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
- Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to exercise sound judgment, take initiative, solve problems, and make timely decisions.
- Must be able to satisfy applicable customer and site-access requirements.
Physical Demands
Regular business travel by automobile and airplane is required. The position requires the ability to communicate effectively with customers, management, coworkers, vendors, and other stakeholders, both individually and in group settings.
Work activities include extended periods of sitting and computer use, as well as periodic visits to refinery, petrochemical, chemical, and other industrial facilities and project sites. Site visits may require walking through active industrial work areas, climbing stairs or ladders where appropriate, and navigating uneven surfaces and other site conditions.
Sufficient manual dexterity is required to operate computers, office equipment, and other tools or equipment normally associated with the position.
The position also requires the ability to review, analyze, and interpret detailed drawings, specifications, schedules, contracts, bid documents, and other technical and business information associated with estimating and project execution.
Work Environment
Work schedules may vary based on bid deadlines, customer requirements, project activity, workload, and other business needs. Work outside normal business hours may occasionally be required to meet proposal deadlines and other position responsibilities.
Travel and overnight stays may be required based on customer, estimating, and project needs.
Although work is frequently performed in a typical office environment, the position requires periodic visits to customer facilities and active industrial job sites. Conditions may include outdoor weather, uneven walking surfaces, elevated noise levels, dust, dirt, construction or turnaround activities, and other conditions normally associated with active industrial facilities.
Appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and compliance with applicable company, customer, and site-specific safety requirements are required when entering designated work areas.
