The City Clerk department plays a vital role in the smooth operation of local government, serving as the central hub for public records, elections, and the administration of official City processes. The City Clerk’s office administers the City’s Records Management Program to ensure the preservation, retention, distribution, and processing of vital City records. It also receives, facilitates, and responds to public records requests in accordance with the California Public Records Act. The office is dedicated to providing excellent customer service and clear, accurate information that empowers residents to participate in the democratic process, access City records, and stay informed about the workings of their local legislative body.
The Recruitment Process:
Applications and Supplemental Questionnaires will be screened for qualifications. The most highly qualified candidates will be invited to participate in an in-person Qualifications Appraisal Interview, tentatively scheduled for November 5, 2026. Successful candidates will be placed on an eligibility list for employment consideration for at least six months.
Sample Representative Duties:
- Conducts sensitive administrative, operational and management analyses, studies and research projects involving City-wide issues, programs, policies and procedures;
- Assists in planning and program evaluation activities having significant effect on the allocation of human and fiscal resources, and the quality and level of public services;
- Performs a wide variety of administrative and analytical duties in support of City-wide issues;
- Analyzes administrative, organizational, and legislative issues;
- Prepares and delivers presentations on a wide variety of issues to the City Council, City commissions and/or community groups;
- May represent the City at inter-departmental, inter-governmental and community activities and meetings;
- May coordinate multi-departmental projects and programs;
- May administer grants, including the research, development, review and preparation of grant applications;
- Coordinates special projects as assigned;
- Serves as a liaison with employees, departments, the public, and other agencies;
- Provides excellent customer service, general information, and assistance to the public.

- Maintain complex records, including filing, storage, retrieval, and disposal of documents;

Education: A Bachelor's degree with a major in public or business administration or a directly related field. A Graduate degree in a directly related field is highly desirable and preferred.
