Position Summary

The Assistant Product Manager (APM) is a key contributor to the Product Management team, responsible for supporting cross-functional teams in the planning, execution, and analysis of various business initiatives.

The APM is also the primary individual responsible for inventory management, with a specific focus on distressed inventory mitigation.

This entry-level role works closely with the broader team to execute strategic business and marketing plans that achieve corporate and product volume, profit, and market share objectives.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Assist the Product Manager and Senior Product Manager in achieving volume and profit objectives for assigned categories, aligned with overall corporate goals.
• Support the execution of business plans to deliver category financial and market share objectives.
• Monitor assigned performance metrics to ensure categories are tracking against established goals; recommend and implement corrective actions as needed.
• Analyze data to identify insights and translate findings into business initiatives and actionable recommendations that drive results.
• Participate in the development and execution of product and packaging plans, including concept development, feasibility validation, product and packaging R&D, business proposal development and approval, project execution, customer sell-in, and tracking of in-market performance.
• Participate in the monthly volume forecasting process for assigned categories by coordinating with demand and supply planning teams to achieve best-in-class forecast accuracy.
• Implement product specification changes.
• Monitor production and inventory levels, working closely with Customer Service Representatives (CSRs) and Sales to mitigate distressed inventory and achieve inventory targets.
• Monitor packaging inventory levels.
• Manage customer calendars to ensure all deadlines and deliverables are met.
• Develop a strong understanding of and technical proficiency in Tyson systems, processes, and customer packaging development systems.
• Engage and collaborate with cross-functional teams on assigned projects.
• Participate in customer sales calls and meetings.
• Monitor industry trends, market share performance, and competitive activity.
• Collaborate closely with Customer Marketing on category selling tool development, promotional initiative execution, and sales communications.
• Partner with customer business teams to develop and execute customer plans, including concept development, feasibility validation, product and packaging R&D, business proposal development and approval, project execution, customer sell-in, and tracking of in-market performance.
• Work closely with the Sales organization to understand and incorporate customer strategies into business and product plans.
• Proactively collaborate with Sales Strategy and Planning partners to ensure forecast accuracy, maximize opportunities, and develop plans to achieve objectives.
• Serve as the business owner for raw material inventory within 2nd Processing and cutout operations.
• Support supply and demand alignment in partnership with plant schedulers and supply chain teams.
• Analyze formulation and throughput performance against engineered production standards.
• Develop expertise in relative part values using external indices (Urner Barry, EMI Brown) and internal strategies (NRGW).
• RVAP reporting.

Requirements

Education

• Bachelor's degree or relevant experience preferred.

Experience

• Minimum of two years of relevant experience preferred.

Computer Skills

• Basic computer skills required.
• Strong Microsoft Excel skills required.

Communication Skills

• Strong communication and presentation skills required.
• Knowledge of Tyson internal systems, including SAP, NPD, Tango, and PPS, is required.

Special Skills

• Demonstrated analytical and strategic thinking skills.
• Strong collaboration skills with a proven ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
• Proven ability to manage multiple projects in a dynamic environment.
• Experience in 2nd Processing, Operations, or Production Planning within Tyson preferred.
• Experience using SAP required.

• Up to 10% travel required.
