Position Description and Purpose:

Compensation Strategy & Administration
- Lead the design, implementation, and administration of base pay, incentive pay, and recognition programs.
- Conduct market pricing and benchmarking studies to ensure external competitiveness and internal equity.
- Evaluate jobs and maintain job architecture, pay grades, salary ranges, and compensation structures.
- Partner with HR and business leaders on compensation recommendations, promotions, transfers, and organizational changes.
- Monitor compensation trends and recommend program enhancements based on labor market conditions and business needs.
Salary Planning
- Manage the annual salary planning process, including merit increases, market adjustments, and promotional increases.
- Develop annual compensation budgets and recommendations in partnership with Finance and executive leadership.
- Analyze compensation data and workforce trends to support strategic workforce planning.
- Provide reporting and insights regarding compensation expenditures, salary movement, compression concerns, and retention risks.
Benefits Administration
- Lead the design, administration, and ongoing evaluation of employee health, welfare, retirement, wellness, and leave programs.
- Manage relationships with brokers, consultants, carriers, TPAs, and benefit vendors.
- Analyze plan utilization, cost trends, and employee feedback to optimize program effectiveness and cost management.
- Ensure compliance with ERISA, ACA, COBRA, HIPAA, FMLA, state regulations, and other relevant laws.
- Lead annual benefits renewals, open enrollment activities, employee communications, and vendor negotiations.
- Develop employee education and communication strategies to maximize understanding and utilization of benefits programs.
- Oversee the organization's leave management function, including leave policies, processes, compliance programs, vendor partnerships, reporting, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Monitor leave trends, utilization, costs, and operational impact; develop recommendations to improve employee experience, reduce risk, and support workforce planning.
Payroll Management
- Oversee payroll operations to ensure accurate and timely processing for all employees.
- Establish and maintain payroll policies, controls, and procedures.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, local, and provincial payroll regulations where applicable.
- Partner with Finance to support payroll accounting, audits, reporting, and reconciliations.
- Monitor payroll processes and identify opportunities for process improvement, automation, and efficiency.
- Manage payroll vendor relationships and system enhancements.
Compliance & Governance
- Ensure total rewards programs comply with all applicable federal, state, local, and Canadian regulations as applicable.
- Support internal and external audits related to compensation, payroll, and benefits programs.
- Maintain policies, procedures, and documentation to support organizational compliance and risk management.
- Monitor legislative changes and proactively recommend necessary program updates.
Leadership & Team Development
- Lead and develop compensation, payroll, benefits, and leave administration team members.
- Establish department goals, performance metrics, and development plans.
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement, service excellence, and collaboration.
- Provide subject matter expertise and guidance to HR leadership and business leaders.
Analytics & Reporting
- Develop and maintain dashboards, metrics, and reporting related to compensation, payroll, benefits, and total rewards programs.
- Utilize HRIS, payroll, and benefits systems to improve reporting accuracy and decision-making.
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, or related field required.
Experience
- 5+ years of progressive experience in compensation, benefits, payroll, or total rewards.
- 2+ years of leadership experience managing compensation, benefits, payroll, or HR operations teams.
- Experience supporting multi-site manufacturing, distribution, or similar operational environments preferred.
- Experience with salary planning, market benchmarking, benefits renewals, payroll administration, and vendor management.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Strong knowledge of compensation design, market pricing, and salary administration.
- Strong understanding of payroll practices and applicable wage and hour regulations.
- Deep knowledge of employee benefits laws and compliance requirements.
- Advanced analytical and financial modeling skills.
- Strong project management and process improvement capabilities.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and stakeholder management skills.
- Proficiency with HRIS (Workday preferred), payroll systems, and Microsoft Excel.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.

- Certified Benefits Professional (CBP)
- SHRM-SCP or SPHR
- Certified Payroll Professional (CPP)
