Assistant Accountant

Finance Manager – Permanent – based in Daventry, NN11

 

Job Purpose:

An excellent opportunity has arisen for a Finance Manager to join a growing business in Daventry, supporting the finance function across three distinct businesses with different operating models.

This is a hands-on role where you will take ownership of core financial processes while managing and supporting a team of three. You will act as the key link between senior management and the finance team, providing guidance and oversight while also remaining involved in the day-to-day accounting activities.

The role would suit a well-rounded finance professional who is comfortable working across multiple areas of finance, managing competing priorities and contributing to the continued development of the finance function.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

• Manage and support a team of three within the finance function.
• Act as the link between senior management and the finance team, providing guidance, support and oversight.
• Maintain and reconcile general ledgers across multiple companies.
• Prepare and review monthly management accounts and trial balances.
• Complete and oversee balance sheet reconciliations.
• Prepare and post journals.
• Process accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions.
• Record day-to-day financial transactions, including invoices, payments and expenses.
• Manage and oversee payment runs.
• Assist with payroll preparation and administration.
• Monitor cash flow and update forecasts as required.
• Review financial information and investigate discrepancies.
• Support the finance team through month-end processes and reporting deadlines.
• Produce accurate financial information within agreed deadlines.
• Contribute to process improvements and the continued development of the finance function.
• Work closely with the wider business to ensure accurate and timely financial information is available.

 

Person Specification:  

• Hands-on and commercially minded approach to finance.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Confident managing and supporting a small finance team.
• Good communication and people-management skills.
• Comfortable working across multiple areas of finance and managing competing priorities.
• Able to work independently while providing effective support and guidance to the wider finance team.

 

Experience:

• Previous experience in a Finance Manager or similar finance role.
• Experience managing or supervising a small finance team.
• Experience working within a multi-entity or multi-company environment.
• Experience with journals, general ledgers, accounts payable and accounts receivable.
• Strong Excel skills, including formulas, VLOOKUPs and Pivot Tables.
• AAT Level 3 qualification as a minimum, or QBE.
• Part-qualified or qualified ACA, ACCA or CIMA candidates will also be considered.
• Previous experience working across multiple companies would be desirable.
• Experience using Xero would be advantageous but is not essential.

 

Hours of Work:

• Monday – Friday (9am – 5pm)
