Zillow’s Core Technology organization empowers our people with the tools and platforms they need to thrive. This partners with the People Organization, Product and engineering teams in the US to build seamless, scalable solutions that support every stage of the employee journey—from recruiting and onboarding to development and retention. We manage a diverse suite of platforms focused predominately on Workday but also including third party platforms closely connected with Workday for talent management. This team works closely with teams across HR, Product, and Engineering functions to configure, implement, and maintain software applications that are used by Zillow Group employees in their day-to-day job activities. This team plays a critical role in ensuring that Zillow operates efficiently and effectively, and fosters a culture of inclusion and collaboration.

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Senior Manager of Engineering to lead a team of six analysts and developers, focused on internal employee technology. This role will focus predominately on Workday but also will support adjacent people organization systems. This role requires effectively balancing the expertise and career aspirations of your team members with the organization's objectives. A proven track record of project implementation and the ability to identify opportunities for technical enhancement and drive continuous improvement initiatives are key aspects of this position.

What You’ll Do

• Lead, coach, and inspire a team of Workday analysts and developers, fostering a culture of innovation, ownership, and growth.
• Drive execution of initiatives in support of the People Org Roadmap, ensuring that projects are delivered on time and within budget
• Discover possibilities to reduce technical debt and propel ongoing improvement initiatives, guaranteeing Zillow maintains a top-tier technology infrastructure
• Collaborate regularly in planning and estimating activities, offering guidance and support to team members using your previous experience and understanding of the business, and actively participate in discussions about capacity and priorities
• Establish strong connections with important individuals in the Product and HR departments, serving as a reliable consultant who can provide guidance, anticipate challenges, and find innovative solutions for business issues
• Represent Zillow's needs and best interests with third-party vendors, ensuring that they are accountable to expectations, service level agreements (SLAs), and contractual commitments
• Constructively negotiate trade-off discussions with other senior leaders, articulating pros and cons while providing options and recommendations that align with Zillow's goals and values
• Prioritize initiatives that balance short-term needs with long-term vision, ensuring consistent delivery of high-impact solutions
• Be responsible for measuring the impact of the roadmap, ensuring that the changes are having the result expected
• Guide the team through capacity planning, agile execution, and continuous improvement of team operations
• Identify operational opportunities and come up with a plan to implement improvements, focused on a continuous improvement philosophy
• Lead quarterly, mid-year and annual planning for your team
• Mentor future leaders by supporting their development in strategy, collaboration, and execution
• Communicate key progress, risks, opportunities and alternative options to executive audiences with clarity and confidence

This role has been categorized as an Office position. “Office” employees regularly work at the Zillow India office for approximately 80 to 100 percent of their time each month. Employees must live within a reasonable commuting distance of the office. Zillow has not defined a reasonable distance, and expects employees will use judgment in determining this for themselves and understand the implications re: time commitment and cost of daily commute.

Who you are

• 8+ years of experience in People/HR technology stacks, with extensive exposure to the Workday ecosystem
• 5+ years of people leadership experience, with a proven track record of getting results through others
• Familiar with Agile Scrum processes and associated ceremonies, and can effectively lead a team in an agile environment
• Passionate about career development and multiplying the impact of your team members, providing mentoring and coaching to individual contributors
• Ability to seamlessly adapt your communication style to the audience ranging from individual contributors on your team to senior leaders and executives
• Strong commitment to operational excellence, constantly striving to uncover the underlying causes of problems, using data to guide your decision-making, and fostering a culture of ongoing improvement within your team
• Previous experience maintaining relationships with external vendors and a solid understanding of commonly accepted approaches in the industry
• Track record of successfully delivering projects through team members that report to you, and can collaborate effectively with partner teams
• Willing to roll up your sleeves and dive into the details to ensure a thorough understanding of the work at hand
