The Project & Programme Services (PPS) team is a key part of the Global Project & Programme Management Office (GPMO), delivering project controls, planning, reporting, performance management, and business intelligence services across global programs and portfolios. Operating through AtkinsRéalis' Global Technology Centre (GTC), the team supports projects worldwide through a scalable, digitally enabled, and high-performing delivery model.
We are seeking an experienced Manager / Sr. Manager - Project Planning & Controls to lead planning, scheduling, cost management, performance reporting, and project controls functions across complex, high-value infrastructure and capital projects across Process, Manufacturing & Production, Energy, Pharma, Infrastructure, Transportation (Rail, Highways, and Aviation) sectors.
This role combines technical expertise with people leadership and client engagement responsibilities. The successful candidate will lead multidisciplinary project controls teams, drive best practices, provide strategic guidance to project stakeholders, and ensure successful delivery through robust planning and governance frameworks
Your role
Planning, Scheduling & Programme Controls
- Lead the development, maintenance, and governance of integrated project schedules using Primavera P6 and other scheduling tools.
- Establish project baselines, WBS structures, milestones, resource plans, and critical path methodologies.
- Drive schedule performance management through regular updates, health checks, and compliance reviews.
- Perform schedule risk assessments, delay analysis, impact assessments, and recovery planning.
- Conduct Critical Path Analysis (CPA), Earned Value Analysis (EVA), and quantitative risk assessments including Monte Carlo simulations.
- Manage change control processes and maintain Performance Measurement Baselines (PMB).
- Support extension of time (EOT) submissions, claims analysis, and forensic schedule reviews where required.
- Ensure alignment between schedule, cost, resources, and risk management processes.
Cost Management & Project Controls
- Lead budgeting, forecasting, cost monitoring, and financial performance management activities.
- Establish and manage Cost Breakdown Structures (CBS) aligned with project delivery frameworks.
- Monitor project expenditures, commitments, accruals, cash flows, contingencies, and cost forecasts.
- Analyze cost and schedule variances and recommend corrective actions to improve project performance.
- Develop cost-loaded schedules and integrated project controls reporting frameworks.
- Support commercial teams with early warnings, change orders, claims, and contract administration activities.
- Drive standardization and automation of project controls and cost management processes.
Performance Reporting & Data Analytics
- Oversee production of weekly, monthly, and executive performance reports.
- Develop and present project dashboards covering schedule, cost, risk, progress, and quality KPIs.
- Lead preparation of Schedule Narratives, Milestone Reports, Variance Analysis, Trend Reports, EVM Dashboards, and Program Review Reports.
- Utilize Power BI and analytics tools to provide data-driven insights and support decision-making.
- Translate complex project data into meaningful recommendations for project teams and clients.
- Promote digital transformation and reporting automation initiatives within the project controls function.
Leadership & Team Development
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of planners, schedulers, cost engineers, and project controls professionals.
- Act as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for planning and project controls across the organization.
- Drive capability development, knowledge sharing, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Establish quality standards and ensure consistency across all project controls deliverables.
- Foster a high-performance culture focused on accountability, collaboration, innovation, and client service.
- Support succession planning and development of future project controls leaders.
Stakeholder & Client Management
- Serve as the primary interface for project planning and controls matters with clients and senior stakeholders.
- Build trusted relationships with project managers, engineering leads, contractors, commercial teams, and clients.
- Facilitate governance reviews, steering committee meetings, and project performance discussions.
- Provide strategic advice on planning, controls, risk, and performance management.
- Ensure stakeholder alignment on project objectives, priorities, risks, and delivery outcomes.
About you
Essential
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management, or a related discipline.
- 12-20 years of experience in Planning and Project Controls within infrastructure, transportation, engineering, construction, or major capital projects.
- Demonstrated experience leading project controls functions on large, complex programmes.
- Advanced expertise in Primavera P6 and project scheduling methodologies.
- Strong understanding of cost control, forecasting, Earned Value Management (EVM), risk management, and change control.
- Proven ability to manage clients, stakeholders, and geographically dispersed teams.
Technical Expertise
- Expert knowledge of planning, scheduling, and project controls best practices.
- Strong experience in baseline development, progress measurement, CL31/CL32/CL62 schedule assessments, and schedule health checks.
- Expert understanding of CPM scheduling techniques and Earned Value Management.
- Experience with cost management platforms such as EcoSys.
- Knowledge of NEC3, NEC4, and FIDIC contracts and their impact on project controls, claims, and scheduling.
- Experience supporting transportation (rail, highways, aviation), infrastructure, utilities, engineering, or major capital projects.
- Familiarity with UK, Middle East, and North American project delivery environments is advantageous.
Digital & Analytics Capability
- Advanced Power BI dashboard development and data visualization expertise.
- Strong analytical capabilities, including KPI development, trend analysis, and performance forecasting.
- Working knowledge of SQL, automation tools, and digital reporting solutions.
- Experience with Python, VBA, ETL processes, or business intelligence platforms is desirable.
- Strong proficiency across the Microsoft 365 ecosystem.
