Position Overview
The Day Shift Maintenance Engineer is responsible for ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of all plant machinery and facility infrastructure. This includes maintaining production equipment as well as offices, laboratories, and communal areas to a high standard.
The role requires strong collaboration with Early Shift and Night Shift Engineers to ensure effective handovers, continuity of operations, and knowledge sharing across shifts.
Key Responsibilities
Carry out emergency breakdown repairs, planned preventative maintenance (PPM), and routine maintenance activities to minimise downtime.
Support installation, commissioning, and testing of new equipment and systems.
Diagnose and resolve electrical and mechanical faults, identifying root causes and implementing sustainable solutions.
Maintain and optimise plant performance through continuous improvement initiatives.
Work with specialist equipment, including PLCs, control systems, and automated production machinery.
Ensure all machinery operates efficiently, safely, and in compliance with relevant standards.
Maintain maintenance stores, ensuring accurate stock levels and that tools/equipment are in good working order.
Follow and contribute to maintenance strategies, procedures, and best practices.
Collaborate cross-functionally with production, quality, and HSE teams to meet operational targets.
Comply with all Health, Safety, Environmental, and Quality policies and procedures.
Accurately complete maintenance records, reports, and shift handovers.
Minimum Requirements
Recognised engineering qualification:
City & Guilds Level 2/3 in Electrical Engineering, or
NVQ Level 2/3 in Electrical Engineering, or
HNC/HND in Electrical Engineering or related discipline
Proven knowledge of industrial electrical systems, including:
Single-phase and three-phase systems
Inverters and rectifiers
Motors, contactors, relays, and sensors
Control panels and wiring (installation and fault finding)
Basic PLC fault finding and interaction
Solid understanding of mechanical systems, including:
Hydraulics and pneumatics
Belts, bearings, chains, and sprockets
Pumps, valves, and conveyors
Strong fault-finding, problem-solving, and analytical skills
Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team
Good communication skills for reporting, escalation, and knowledge transfer
Preferred Requirements
18th Edition Wiring Regulations certification
Experience in a manufacturing or industrial maintenance environment
Familiarity with CMMS (Computerised Maintenance Management Systems)
Continuous improvement or lean manufacturing experience
Additional Requirements
Willingness to work flexible hours, including overtime and on-call support when required
Strong commitment to health, safety, and environmental standards
