Responsible for providing accounting, tax compliance, payroll and advisory services for County
Farm Bureaus. This position serves as a key resource for county accounting operations, financial
statement preparation, tax reporting, budgeting and accounting analysis. This position also
supports the general organization’s accounting functions. This position reports to the Director of Accounting.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary accounting contact for County Farm Bureaus and maintains positive relationships with county leadership and coordinators.
- Prepare, review, and analyze monthly and annual financial statements, reports, and schedules for County Farm Bureaus.
- Review and maintain accounting records, journal entries and account classifications to ensure accuracy and compliance with accounting standards and organizational policies.
- Provide guidance and support to County Farm Bureaus regarding budgeting, financial planning, accounting procedures, and financial analysis.
- Prepare and/or review annual IRS Form 990, Form 990EZ, and Form 990N filings for County Farm Bureaus.
- Oversees payroll processing and reporting including W-2 preparation for County Coordinators using PayChex.
- Prepare and file sales tax returns and other required federal, state, and local tax filings for County Farm Bureaus.
- Prepare and/or review annual Form 1099 reporting for County Farm Bureaus.
- Participate in month-end and year-end closing activities for both county and corporate accounting functions.
- Assist with corporate accounting activities including account reconciliations, journal entries, financial reporting, budgeting, cash management, fixed asset tracking, depreciation schedules, and special projects.
- Conduct accounting research and provide recommendations regarding accounting treatment, compliance matters, and process improvements.
- Provide cross-functional and backup support for other accounting functions as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Three to five years of accounting experience, including experience preparing financial statements.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to make sound business recommendations.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with individuals at all organizational levels.
- Demonstrates exceptional attention to detail while maintaining accuracy, organization, and consistency.
- Excellent time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
- Knowledge of nonprofit accounting, payroll processing, tax reporting, and Form 990 preparation.
- Must keep abreast of accounting procedures and practices.
Authority
- Responsible for meeting assigned tax filing deadlines and accounting reporting deadlines.
- Exercises independent judgment in carrying out accounting responsibilities and recommending solutions to accounting issues.
Relationships
- Works closely with County Coordinators, County Farm Bureau leadership, Field Service Managers, and KFB Staff.
- Collaborates with members of the Accounting, IT, Human Resources and leadership teams.
- Interacts with outside auditors, tax authorities, financial institutions, vendors, and other business partners as necessary.
- Participates in organizational activities and committees as requested.
Physical Requirements
Requires ability to operate telephone, computer, and other standard office equipment. Occasional in-state and possible out-of-state travel for conferences. Requires the ability to sit, stand, walk, and perform routine office activities. Must be able to work outside of normal office hours when necessary. May require the ability to load and unload materials. Regular attendance (as defined by the Employee Handbook) is a function of the job.
