Description
The Bookkeeper will be responsible for maintaining accurate and up-to-date financial records and supporting the day-to-day accounting operations of a growing organisation. This is a hands-on role covering general bookkeeping, accounts payable and receivable, bank reconciliations, Philippine tax compliance, payroll support, and month-end closing activities.
The role will work closely with the Head of Accounting as well as Procurement, Operations, and other internal teams to ensure timely processing of transactions, proper documentation, and adherence to accounting and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain and update the general ledger, ensuring transactions are recorded accurately and on time.
- Handle day-to-day bookkeeping and accounting transactions, including accounts payable and accounts receivable.
- Process vendor invoices, customer payments, disbursements, and collections follow-ups.
- Perform monthly reconciliations of bank accounts, credit cards, petty cash, and other relevant accounts.
- Prepare and file BIR tax returns and related compliance requirements, including VAT, withholding tax, and other applicable taxes.
- Ensure timely and accurate compliance with Philippine tax regulations and filing requirements.
- Assist with payroll processing, including the computation and reconciliation of statutory contributions such as SSS, PhilHealth, and Pag-IBIG.
- Maintain complete and organised accounting records, receipts, invoices, and supporting documentation for audit readiness.
- Prepare financial reports, schedules, and accounting summaries as requested by the Head of Accounting.
- Support month-end and year-end closing activities, including account reconciliations and preparation of supporting schedules.
- Coordinate with Procurement and Operations teams regarding payment schedules, vendor requirements, and disbursements.
- Monitor outstanding payables and receivables and ensure timely follow-up on pending items.
- Assist in establishing, improving, and maintaining accounting workflows and documentation.
- Support the transition and maintenance of financial workflows through ClickUp and other internal systems.
- Perform other accounting and bookkeeping-related tasks as required.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accountancy, Accounting Technology, Financial Management, or a related field.
- At least 5 years of relevant experience in bookkeeping or general accounting.
- Strong working knowledge of Philippine accounting and tax requirements, particularly BIR filings, VAT, and withholding taxes.
- Experience handling payroll computation and statutory contributions.
- Strong understanding of account reconciliation, transaction recording, and financial documentation.
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Strong organisational and time-management skills.
- Able to manage multiple accounting activities and deadlines with minimal supervision.
- Good communication skills and the ability to coordinate effectively with internal teams and external stakeholders.
Technical Skills
Proficient in:
- Microsoft Excel and/or Google Sheets, including formulas, PivotTables, and reconciliation templates
- Accounting software such as QuickBooks, Xero, or similar platforms
- Google Workspace
Knowledge of or willingness to learn:
- ClickUp or similar workflow/project management platforms
- BIR eFPS and online tax filing systems
- EoR, People Matters, or similar HR/payroll platforms
