Group Manager Product Experts - APAC

The Group Manager Product Experts - APAC leads and develops FLSmidth's Rest-of-World Product Expert (RoWPE) group, the mechanical technical backbone of the aftermarket (spare parts and modernisation) portfolio.

The role manages a highly skilled team of 16 engineers, designers and parts specialists across EMEA, APAC and CA&I who support pre-sales, project execution, spare parts quality, modernisation upgrades and product improvement initiatives. The role holder is the group's senior technical authority for separation and complex upgrade engineering, with sign-off responsibility for complex and cross-product work.

The successful candidate will drive alignment between the PE group, product specialists, sales and sales support functions, ensuring strong service levels, operational effectiveness and continuous improvement in support of FLSmidth's aftermarket growth ambitions and customer satisfaction.

The role includes developing team capability, supporting regional locations as required, representing the group to Service Line management and the Product Business Lines, and maintaining effective communication with internal and external customers.

Key Responsibilities

• Ensure timely, high-quality engineering and technical support to internal and external stakeholders.
• Drive excellence in spare parts technical management (parts identification, technical supply lists, RSPL and first-spares packages, install-base management), machine upgrade design, drafting and documentation standards.
• Act as senior technical authority for separation products, particularly flotation, and for complex cross-product upgrade and retrofit engineering; check and approve novel work, complex upgrade scopes and deliverables produced by the group and its contractors.
• Lead first-principles reviews (machine design, fatigue, hydraulics, drive analysis, RCA, FMEA and remaining-life assessment), complex site investigations, audits and failure investigations.
• Own and develop the group's operating model, workflow and engineering governance framework: novel versus repeat work, independent checking, approval thresholds and deviation documentation.
• Own and develop the group's AI strategy.
• Lead product improvement initiatives and strengthen customer satisfaction through technical capability, responsiveness and quality.
• Working with other leaders in the SP&M group, develop and deliver strategic initiatives that improve the market position of FLSmidth's aftermarket offering; harmonise ways of working with the NAMER and SAMER PE groups.
• Own the group's capability architecture: skill-domain profiling, per-skill independence levels, and mapping of checking and approval authority to demonstrated competence.
• Plan and balance capacity and workload across regions, product lines and time zones; manage headcount planning, role definition, business cases and grading; lead succession for critical technical authority positions.
• Manage the shared CAD and drafting resource; set and maintain drawing, drafting and documentation standards.
• Oversee outsourced and externally licensed engineering resource, ensuring jurisdictional and statutory compliance for brownfield work.
• Prepare, monitor and manage the group budget.
• Lead performance management, development, coaching and succession planning.
• Maintain technical standards, design quality governance and accurate engineering records.

Skills and Experience

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar; chartered, RPEQ or equivalent.
• Minimum 15 years' experience in mining, mineral processing or heavy industry, including mechanical or technical management roles.
• Deep separation knowledge and broad multi-product exposure.
• Experience in upgrade and retrofit engineering in brownfield and mixed-OEM environments.
• Structural, hydraulic and drive-train analysis, RCA, FMEA and condition monitoring.
• Proficiency in Enovia, SolidWorks, AutoCAD, FEA and analytical tools.
• Spare parts technical management: BOM, parts identification, RSPL and FTS, install-base.
• Demonstrated leadership of a distributed technical team across regions and time zones, including coaching, delegation and accountability.
• Strong ability to prioritise, analyse problems and make sound decisions under pressure.
• Excellent communication, stakeholder management and negotiation skills; credible with senior customer engineering and with other teams within FLSmidth.
• Ability to build relationships, manage risk, work through ambiguity and drive business improvement.
• Customer-focused mindset with strong attention to quality and service delivery.
