Business Case:

• The driving need for this role is to provide product and feature delivery for Enterprise Event Hub (Kafka, Precisely CDC and Light Kafka Sidecar), which is the near Real-Time Event Streaming Enterprise Data Backbone for Sun Life. It is the primary technical enabler of XP’s Client Experience Transformation Vision. The role will also provide Engineering Support for the Enterprise Event Hub Operations Team.
• The work is coming from a staff departure, we have a need for a Senior API Platform Solution Design Engineer. The role is already funded through API Platform Run Rate
• This is not an additional role and backfilling the role will return the team to status quo allowing for the completion of work that is already planned and budgeted

• The individual filling this role will:

• Provide technical specialization for Enterprise Event Hub (Kafka, Precisely CDC and Light Kafka Sidecar) and its supporting infrastructure & tools
• Implement Enterprise Event Hub Roadmap to achieve desired business outcomes under the guidance of Leadership
• Designer & developer role with strong hold in designing skills
• Be a “cornerstone resource” for doing detailed design, development and implementation of Enterprise Event Hub Products
• Act as third line of support for Operations to troubleshoot and resolve Enterprise Event Hub Issues in Production and Lower Environments
• Assist API Platform Consulting Team in providing LOB Teams technical guidance where needed and assisting in delivering LOB Solutions
• Grow Enterprise Event Hub expertise in Canada and SLGS by mentoring existing team members and participating in hiring of new Enterprise Event Hub Engineers
• Share knowledge within Sun Life through Enterprise Event Hub presentations and product demos in communities of practice
   

• Continuous improvement & lean design accomplishments have not impacted the need for this role
• This role requires significant and specific technical skills and cannot be automated
• The work assigned to this role is critical to Enterprise Event Hub Strategic and Foundational Roadmap to deliver high demand features to Enterprise Event Hub consumers.  The work cannot be deprioritized as it is already under schedule pressure and clients are waiting for it.
• Work volume is constantly increasing which has been exacerbated by the departure of the individual previously filling this role
• The team is currently under capacity (there is more work to do than people), furthermore, without this role being filled, delivery timelines and commitments cannot be met.
• This role must be local (Canada). This is the only role providing technical and hands on delivery expertise for Enterprise Event Hub Features in Canada.  Furthermore, local Delivery Teams often require technical insight from this role and that insight must be available during Canadian Business Hours. 
• The Enterprise Event Hub Engineering Team is underweighted and the departure of the previous resource meant we lost 1 out of 3 of the team (33%).
• There are no underperformers on the team
• If this role is not filled, Enterprise Event Hub will not be able to meet the features and enhancement required by its consumers and will impact the delivery velocity of our consumers such as XP
