Your opportunity:

As Financial Accounting Lead, you’ll play a key role in supporting the Financial Accounting Manager and ensuring Urban Utilities’ financial reporting, controls and assurance activities are delivered to a high standard.

You’ll have the opportunity to:

• Lead the delivery of Urban Utilities’ external financial reporting, ensuring accurate, timely and compliant financial information.

• Design and implement a comprehensive Financial Control Framework, including testing and reporting to strengthen financial assurance across the organisation.

• Coordinate the annual external audit program, working closely with auditors and business stakeholders to resolve complex issues and drive timely outcomes.

• Provide high-level financial accounting advice across the business, supporting leaders to navigate accounting standards, legislation and financial requirements.

• Lead and coordinate the day-to-day activities of the Financial Accounting Team, supporting performance, capability and delivery.

• Influence and improve financial policies, processes, controls and systems, identifying opportunities to make the way we work more efficient and effective.

• Use your technical expertise and financial insights to help business leaders make informed decisions and manage financial risks.

• Work across a diverse range of stakeholders and business areas, giving you the opportunity to make a meaningful impact across Urban Utilities.

About you:

You’re an experienced financial accounting professional who combines strong technical expertise with a practical, improvement-focused approach. You’ll bring the confidence to provide specialist financial advice, lead complex reporting and assurance activities, and work collaboratively with stakeholders across the business.

You’ll ideally bring:

• Relevant tertiary qualifications in Accounting, Finance or a related discipline, with CPA or CA membership highly regarded.

• Extensive experience in financial accounting, financial reporting, controls and assurance within a complex organisation.

• Strong knowledge of Australian accounting standards, financial legislation and regulatory requirements, including Queensland Government financial management frameworks.

• Proven ability to develop and implement financial policies, processes and controls that strengthen financial governance and compliance.

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to investigate variances, identify risks and recommend practical solutions.

• Experience leading financial audit activities and working effectively with internal and external auditors to resolve complex issues and drive timely remediation.

• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to provide clear, authoritative financial advice to leaders and business teams.

• Experience leading and developing a team, setting clear expectations and building capability to achieve high-quality outcomes.
