Overview
About the Role & Team
IDC is seeking a highly strategic, execution-focused Chief of Staff to support the Chief Marketing Officer (CMO). This critical role will partner closely with the CMO to drive alignment across Marketing and its go-to-market partners, move key initiatives forward, and enable operational excellence within the marketing organization.
The ideal candidate brings a strong mix of strategic thinking, marketing and commercial acumen, program management discipline, cross-functional collaboration, and operational rigor. This individual will serve as a trusted advisor, program owner, and operator, helping translate the CMO's vision into actionable plans and driving consistent execution across Brand, Event & Field Marketing, Pipeline Generation, Product Marketing, and Marketing Operations.
They are also AI-fluent and automation-first: comfortable running Claude and other AI tools to build reporting, analysis, and executive-ready materials, so recurring reports are automated rather than assembled by hand and the team's time goes to insight, decisions, and execution.
What You’ll Do
- Strategic Support to the CMO
- Serve as a thought partner to the CMO; help prioritize focus areas and support decision-making.
- Support strategic planning and quarterly/annual business reviews across the marketing organization, managing the planning calendar, inputs, and deliverables.
- Prepare executive-level materials (board decks, investor updates, CMO talk tracks, marketing performance and budget analysis.
- Office of the CMO Initiatives
- Run cross-functional programs and projects across Marketing and its go-to-market partners, from scoping and planning through delivery and post-launch review.
- Manage the CMO’s operating rhythm — agendas, leadership meetings, cadences, and communications.
- Maintain a portfolio view of strategic initiatives — timelines, milestones, dependencies, risks, and owners — and follow through on CMO action items.
- Support marketing budget tracking and agency and vendor management.
- Cross-functional Execution
- Partner with Marketing leadership, Sales leadership, RevOps, and Finance to align and track shared goals (e.g., pipeline contribution, campaign performance).
- Identify and resolve cross-functional roadblocks and dependency risks that hinder marketing performance, escalating to the CMO as needed.
- Lead special projects and transformations (e.g., go-to-market changes, martech and system implementations) using clear program plans, status reporting, and success metrics.
- Communication & Change Management
- Act as a communication bridge between the CMO and internal/external stakeholders.
- Craft compelling messaging for internal communications and organizational change initiatives.
- Handle sensitive or high-impact matters with discretion and diplomacy.
What You Bring
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Marketing, or related field preferred.
- 5+ years of relevant work experience in Marketing Strategy, Marketing Operations, Program/Project Management, or Business Operations. Previous experience in a chief of staff or similar role is a plus
- Strong understanding of marketing and go-to-market models (Demand Generation, Product Marketing, Brand, Marketing Operations, and Sales alignment).
- Demonstrated experience working with executive stakeholders and leading cross-functional initiatives.
- Strong program and project management skills, including planning, risk management, and status reporting, with a focus on interdepartmental communication and marketing performance reporting (pipeline contribution, budget, and ROI)
- Exceptional ability to manage multiple tasks with concurrent deadlines
- Strong ability to navigate through ambiguity and ability to constantly shift priorities to the most important task at hand, while seeing the big picture
- Operates with a high level of discretion, integrity, and emotional intelligence
- Must work independently and be personally motivated.
- Strategic thinker with a track record of identifying opportunities for improvement and driving change.
- Strong communication skills — both written and verbal — with the poise to engage senior leaders
