Job Title: Senior Accountant
Reports to: Director of Finance
Supervisory Responsibilities: Provides guidance and support to the Accountant; may assist with oversight of day-to-day accounting activities.
Summary/Objective:
Specialty Tooling Systems (STS) is seeking an experienced Senior Accountant to join our growing team. This is a hands-on accounting role responsible for supporting the company’s day-to-day accounting operations, financial reporting, month-end close, and financial analysis.
The ideal candidate has a strong general accounting background and is ready to take greater ownership of accounting processes while working closely with the Director of Finance and Accountant. This is a great opportunity for an experienced accountant looking to continue growing their career and take on increased responsibility within a growing Automation & Integration company.
Essential Functions:
- Perform and oversee day-to-day accounting activities, including accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, cash management, and general ledger activities.
- Coordinate month-end and year-end close activities, including account reconciliations and journal entries.
- Prepare and analyze financial statements and recurring financial reports.
- Analyze financial results and assist with identifying and explaining significant variances.
- Support the Director of Finance with projections, cash flow analysis, job costing, and other ad hoc financial reporting.
- Review accounting transactions and reconciliations for accuracy and completeness.
- Provide guidance and support to the Accountant and serve as backup for accounting functions as needed.
- Work with program management and company leadership to monitor job costs and align costs and revenue with individual projects.
- Assist with payroll administration and related reporting.
- Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, accuracy, efficiency, and internal controls.
- Provide backup support for general office administration and employee-related administrative functions, including onboarding, benefits, and employee records, as needed.
- Coordinate with corporate HR and other TSG shared-service teams as appropriate.
- Perform other accounting and administrative responsibilities as needed within a small, collaborative team.
Required Competency, Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 3–5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including general ledger accounting, reconciliations, month-end close, and financial reporting.
- Strong understanding of core accounting functions, including AP, AR, payroll, and cash management.
- Strong Excel and Microsoft Office skills.
- Ability to analyze financial information and identify discrepancies and trends.
- Strong organizational, prioritization, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and take ownership of assigned accounting functions.
- Strong interpersonal and written/verbal communication skills.
- Willingness to remain hands-on and assist wherever needed within a small accounting team.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality when working with financial and employee information.
Preferred Experience:
- Job costing or project-based accounting experience.
- Experience with ERP/accounting systems.
- Experience training or mentoring other accounting employees.
- Payroll experience.
Physical Demands:
- High manual dexterity of hands and fingers
- Ability to sit for long periods of time
- Ability to use a computer for a prolonged amount of time
- Ability to move or lift files and boxes up to 20 pounds
Work environment: Office setting within a manufacturing environment.
Position type and expected hours of work: Full time, Monday-Friday. 40 hours per week.
