OR Manager

Surgical Operations & Block Optimization

Leading Multi-Site Orthopedic, Spine & Interventional Pain Group | Operations Management

North Central Florida (Gainesville hub, multi-site) | Full-Time, Exempt | On-Site

Compensation: $95,000 – $130,000 annually, commensurate with experience + performance bonus

You became an operations leader because you can see the whole board — the block that’s sitting half-empty, the case that’s about to run long, the calibration that’s two weeks overdue. And yet too many surgical operations leaders spend their days boxed in: more demand for OR time than capacity, a schedule that changes faster than they can react, and a mountain of administrative work that buries the strategic thinking they were hired for.

Imagine instead being handed the keys — real authority over utilization, a leadership team that treats operations as the engine of the practice rather than a back-office cost, and the tools and support staff to actually fix what you see. That role exists, and we’re hiring for it now.

Our client — a physician-led, multi-site orthopedic, spine, and interventional pain management group with seven locations across Florida — is seeking an OR Manager to own the throughput and utilization of every surgical and clinical revenue-generating asset across the organization. Internally, the team calls this role the “Offensive Coordinator” — because you set the tempo. You will build and manage the master block schedule across OR, ambulatory surgical, and interventional (“lifecare”) blocks; partner daily with surgeons, anesthesia, and the referral pipeline to keep blocks full; and lead the operational initiatives that expand capacity and improve patient outcomes. You will function as a valued member of a multidisciplinary leadership team — not as an isolated administrator buried under paperwork.

Why This Role Is Different

  • Real Autonomy— You own block optimization end-to-end — building the master schedule, setting utilization targets, and recommending restructuring when blocks underperform. This is a decision-making seat, not a scheduling desk.
  • Meaningful Work & Right-Sized Scope— Your work maps directly to patients getting care faster and to the practice growing. You’ll cut time-from-consult-to-procedure and close the gaps that leave surgical capacity — and patients — waiting.
  • True Collaboration— You’ll work shoulder-to-shoulder with surgeons, anesthesia, clinical staff, patient advocates, and the inbound/outbound referral team — with a direct line to the Operations Director when you need a decision made.
  • Flexibility & Trust— Leadership hires operators and lets them operate. You’ll be measured on outcomes on a clear scorecard, not on hours logged or permission sought.
  • Schedule & Work-Life Balance— A predictable weekday, exempt schedule in an outpatient-focused, physician-led environment — the kind of stability that hospital-based OR leadership rarely offers.
  • Employer Investment & Culture— A growing, evidence-based practice that treats operations as core strategy. You’ll have the support staff, vendor relationships, and executive visibility to succeed — and a leadership team that notices when you do.

What You'll Do

  • Drive utilization: Build and manage the master block schedule across all OR, ASC, and interventional blocks, keeping utilization at or above target and proactively filling gaps with rescheduled or waitlisted patients.
  • Protect the patient journey: Establish standardized pre-op, day-of, and post-procedure touch points, ensuring every follow-up is completed on time and documented — so no patient falls through the cracks.
  • Align the referral pipeline: Partner with the inbound/outbound referral team to match demand to available block time and shorten time-from-consult-to-scheduled-procedure.
  • Launch new initiatives: Research and pilot new service lines, block configurations, and scheduling innovations; document SOPs and train staff ahead of rollout.
  • Own equipment readiness: Maintain a master calibration and preventive-maintenance program across all sites so clinical equipment is compliant, calibrated, and ready — with zero lapses.
  • Report what matters: Track utilization, touch-point completion, patient satisfaction, and case-cancellation metrics, and report progress and outcomes in weekly leadership meetings.
  • Ensure compliance: Keep equipment maintenance and documentation aligned with AHCA and applicable accreditation standards.

Who You Are

Required

  • Proven experience managing surgical, perioperative, ASC, or multi-site clinical operations, with direct ownership of scheduling and utilization.
  • A track record of building and running block schedules, driving measurable utilization improvement, and coordinating across surgeons, anesthesia, and clinical teams.
  • Fluency with EMR/scheduling systems and comfort turning operational data into decisions.
  • Strong project-management and communication skills — you can write an SOP, train a team, and present outcomes to physicians and executives.
  • Working knowledge of healthcare regulatory and accreditation requirements (AHCA experience a plus).

Preferred

  • Experience in an orthopedic, spine, interventional pain, or multi-site outpatient surgical environment.
  • Background in block-utilization optimization, capacity planning, or perioperative process improvement (Lean/Six Sigma a plus).
  • Bachelor’s degree in healthcare administration, business, nursing, or a related field; clinical licensure (e.g., RN) is a plus but not required.
  • Familiarity with equipment calibration/preventive-maintenance programs and vendor management.
  • A demonstrated history of launching new service lines or scheduling innovations.

Your Total Rewards

  • Compensation— Competitive base of $95,000–$130,000 annually (commensurate with experience), plus a performance bonus tied to a clear operational scorecard and merit review.
  • Health & Wellness— Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage for you and eligible dependents, in a practice built around evidence-based, whole-person care.
  • Financial Security— Retirement savings plan with employer participation, plus life and disability coverage options.
  • Growth & Development— A high-visibility leadership role in a growing organization, with room to shape new service lines, build your team, and advance as the practice expands across Florida.

Work-Life Balance — Paid time off, a predictable weekday schedule, and an outpatient-focused environment — the stability that hospital OR leadership rarely provides.
