Position Summary:

The Director of Engineering is responsible for overseeing and driving the successful delivery of complex, cross-functional projects. Lead teams (internal and external) to deliver innovative solutions, including projects that encompass distributed energy resources and smart infrastructure initiatives. This role requires a strategic thinker with strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills to manage project teams, timelines, budgets, and stakeholder expectations. The ideal candidate will serve as a mentor to junior project managers and play a key role in shaping project management best practices across the organization.

  • Lead the planning, execution, and delivery of multiple high-impact projects simultaneously.
  • Define project scope, goals, deliverables, and success criteria in collaboration with stakeholders.
  • Develop detailed project plans, schedules, budgets and resource allocations.
  • Monitor project progress and performance, identifying and mitigating risks and issues.
  • Facilitate cross-functional collaboration and communication among project teams.
  • Ensure projects are delivered on time, within scope, and within budget.
  • Provide regular updates and reports to senior leadership and stakeholders.
  • Mentor and support junior project managers and team members.
  • Provide On-Site support for ongoing projects and bid submittals.
  • Provide consulting services for clients as part of ongoing or new project submittals.
  • Source new RFP’s and streams of opportunities for ongoing vertical growth.
  • Onboard and work with contractors to meet requirements of current and future projects.

Education & Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Energy Systems, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical or related field.
  • 12+ years of progressive experience in energy engineering, utility programs, grid operations, or distributed energy resources (DERs) integration.
  • Demonstrated expertise in several of the following:
    • Grid operations and distribution systems
    • Load management
    • Demand response
    • Virtual power plants
    • Non‑wire alternatives
    • Battery Energy Storage systems
    • Energy audits and building systems
    • Energy modeling and savings calculations
    • Smart infrastructure initiatives
    • Connected Mobility services
  • Proven leadership experience managing technical teams.
  • Proven track record of managing complex projects.
  • Strong understanding of project management software (e.g., MS Project, Smartsheet).
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Engineering, Energy Systems, Electrical or related discipline.
  • Experience with modeling tools such as PSCAD, PowerWorld, PSSE, eQUEST, or EnergyPlus.
  • Familiarity with utility regulatory environments and energy efficiency and DER program requirements.

  • Proven account management or other relevant experience.
  • Experience in delivering client-focused solutions based on customer needs.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects at a time while paying strict attention to detail.
  • Self-motivated and able to thrive in a results-driven environment.
  • Relationship builder with integrity, reliability and maturity.
  • Ability to prioritize among competing tasks.
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Keen attention to detail and adherence to deadlines.
  • Expert at Microsoft Office Suite and Salesforce.
  • Encourage a positive work environment and culture for all team members.
  • Deliver consistent performance against set targets on key customer satisfaction measures and carry out weekly reviews of KPI’s.

Licenses & Certifications:

  • Professional Engineer (PE), Certified Energy Manager (CEM), Certified Measurement Valuation Professional (CMVP), or equivalent certification preferred.
  • PMP, PRINCE2, or equivalent certification strongly preferred.
