JOB TITLE: SUBSTANCE USE DISORDER PROFESSIONAL (SUDP), SUBSTANCE USE DISORDER PROFESSIONAL TRAINEE (SUDPT) 

DEPARTMENT: Substance Use Disorder and Co-Occurring Disorders (SUD/COD)

THIS POSITION WILL BE ASSIGNED TO THE LONG BEACH AND RAYMOND LOCATION.

JOB SUMMARY: The Substance Use Disorder Professional (SUDP) is responsible for providing substance use disorder diagnosis and treatment services in a professional, positive, consumer-friendly, and recovery-focused manner. The SUDP is a core member of a collaborative care team that may include the patient's mental health therapist, psychiatric medication provider, primary care provider, and other behavioral health staff. 

The SUDP is responsible for coordinating referrals to clinically indicated services both within and outside the agency (e.g., social services, mental health specialty care, inpatient substance abuse treatment, housing, employment, peer support). They are also responsible for attending drug court and working with courts and legal entities to ensure reporting on the client’s behalf is submitted.

JOB SUMMARY: The Substance Use Disorder Professional Trainee (SUDPT) is responsible for providing substance use disorder diagnosis and treatment services in a professional, positive, consumer-friendly, and recovery-focused manner.  The SUDPT is a core member of a collaborative care team that may include the patient's mental health therapist, psychiatric medication provider, primary care provider, and other behavioral health staff. The SUDPT is responsible for coordinating referrals to clinically indicated services both within and outside the agency (e.g., social services, mental health specialty care, inpatient substance abuse treatment, housing, employment, peer support). They are also responsible for attending drug court and working with courts and legal entities to ensure reporting on the client’s behalf is submitted, under the supervision of the SUDP.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

Follow Willapa Behavioral Health & Wellness Service Excellence Standards / Code of Ethics and Policies and Procedures.

3. Maintain appropriate boundaries with clients and staff.
4. Work on-site as necessary or remotely using telehealth technology as determined by management.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (SUDP)

1. Provides direct Substance Use Disorder services to clients who are assigned. Demonstrates competence in conducting SUD assessments in accordance with ASAM criteria, organizational policy and practices, and under the signature of the SUD Clinical Supervisor. Provides individual and group counseling and educational groups in accordance with organizational curricula, policy and procedure. Maintains active patient caseload and documents detailed records of treatment and aftercare. Provides best practice treatment modalities that are keeping within Agency philosophy and policies, and within State and County guidelines. Conducts assessments and develops individual treatment plans. Coordinates the intake process for the patients. Meets productivity and performance requirements, as well as Service Excellence Standards. 
2. Records patient notes on the day of contact, and ensures files are maintained in accordance with organization’s policies and procedures. Assists clients in developing their Recovery Plan which includes identifying goals, objectives, strengths and modes of treatment. Completes all required paperwork. Completes daily activity forms for billing purposes. Ensures each client will have a treatment plan developed within 30 days of intake that will be updated every 30 days. Complete all paperwork for all MCO documentation requirements within a timely manner. Ensures timely, complete communication and treatment progress reports to the courts, referents and resource agencies, as appropriate.
3. Develops and reviews at least monthly individualized treatment plans following the ASAM Patient Placement Criteria, amending as appropriate. Participates in clinical, planning, staff and administrative meetings as required. Work effectively with other outpatient team members in planning and developing treatment plan, instructional strategies and programs. Regularly attends and contributes at meetings.
4. Provides consultation and training to staff, other agency staff or the public when requested. Participates in relevant consultation and educational activities. Available for emergency consultation with SUD Program Manager or designee. 
5. Attends professional conferences and workshops as appropriate to responsibilities of the position and program needs. Develops administrative and clinical expertise.
6. Provides on-going community education relating to alcohol, drugs and other substances. Maintains active individual caseload and document detailed records of treatment and aftercare. Coordinates on-going social, educational, and recreational activities for recovering substance abusers and as alternatives to substance abuse. Represents WBHW positively at all times to enhance company reputation in the communities served.

Requirements

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

1. Registration in Washington State is required.
2. SUDP or SUDPT License in the State of WA, dual certification SUDP & Mental Health is a plus.
3. Must have working knowledge of ASAM Patient Placement Criteria as well as DSM 5.
4. Must be knowledgeable of Washington Administration Codes and the Revised Code of Washington, to ensue compliance with all requirements.
5. Able to maintain confidentiality in accordance with 42 CFR, 45 CFR, and RCW 70.96A.
6. Ability to effectively engage clients in a therapeutic relationship.
7. Working knowledge of evidence-based psychosocial treatments for common mental disorders.
8. Familiarity with evidence-based counseling, brief, structured intervention techniques (e.g., Motivational Interviewing, Behavioral Activation).
9. Experience working with underserved, transient populations.
10. Experience working with patients who have co-occurring mental health, substance abuse, and physical health problems.
11. Experience working with safety net providers within the community and knowledge of community resources.
12. Undergo and pass criminal background check upon initial employment and any subsequent checks required by the agency.
13. A valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle.
14. Comply with agency policies and procedures.
15. Meet requirements of agency’s drug free workplace policy.
16. Driving record must pass our insurance company’s underwriting guidelines.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Current certification as a Washington Substance Use Disorder Professional, OR Washington Substance Use Disorder Professional Trainee. 
2. National (NAADAC) certification, (NAADAC-MAC preferred).
3. Demonstrate competency in working with chemically dependent individuals.
4. Effective familiarity with ASAM criteria in assessing a substance abuse and chemical dependence. 
5. Experience in addictions treatment services is required.
6. Experience working with adults.
7. Strong computer skills including accounting databases, Excel, and other software.
8. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, computer proficiency to document in the electronic medical record (EMR) and utilize telehealth and Microsoft office suite. 
9. Undergo and pass criminal background check upon initial employment and any subsequent checks required by the agency.
10. Meet requirements of agency’s drug free workplace policy.
11. Excellent customer service with a client focus.
12. Able to sit, stand and move for long hours at a time and lift up to 25 pounds.
13. A valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle.
14. Able to drive in daylight, darkness, and typical Northwest weather conditions.
15. Flexible to fill-in shifts if needed. 
16. Meet the current Washington health care vaccination requirements for health care workers.
