Description
Why Paynovate?
Paynovate is a Belgium-based fintech with more than 80 talented employees. We’re building a company where dreams are shaped, where bold initiatives are taken, and where your leadership, ownership and ability to follow through are valued.
Context
At Paynovate, our compliance operations rely on systems that need to be reliable, scalable and properly understood.
We are looking for a Financial Crime Technology Manager to take end-to-end ownership of our fraud and compliance technology stack, starting with SEON and Featurespace.
Your first priority will be to regain full control of these platforms: understand their current configuration, assess their effectiveness, recalibrate rules and thresholds, and establish a continuous feedback loop with the teams using them every day.
Over time, you will also help define our financial-crime technology strategy, assess new solutions and lead future tool implementations or migrations.
This is a senior individual contributor role with no direct people-management responsibility at this stage.
Your role
Your time will broadly be divided across three areas:
- 50% – Systems operations and optimisation
- 25% – Technology strategy and roadmap
- 25% – Product and Engineering collaboration
What you will do
Own and optimise our systems
- Take end-to-end ownership of our fraud and compliance platforms, initially SEON and Featurespace.
- Manage their configuration, rules, thresholds, integrations and ongoing maintenance.
- Assess tool performance using relevant metrics such as precision, recall, false-positive rates and alert volumes.
- Analyse alert outcomes and operational feedback to identify control gaps, ineffective rules and opportunities for optimisation.
- Recalibrate detection rules and thresholds while maintaining an appropriate balance between detection effectiveness and operational workload.
- Establish a structured feedback loop with Compliance Operations, Fraud, Customer Support and other relevant teams.
- Monitor system performance and ensure issues are identified, prioritised and resolved.
Shape our technology strategy
- Build and maintain a roadmap for Paynovate’s fraud and compliance technology capabilities.
- Assess whether existing tools remain fit for purpose and recommend improvements or alternatives.
- Participate in the selection of new technology providers.
- Lead the functional aspects of future implementations and migrations, from requirements definition through testing and rollout.
- Identify opportunities to automate and improve day-to-day Compliance activities, including through AI-enabled solutions where appropriate.
- Ensure technology decisions support operational needs, regulatory expectations and Paynovate’s wider business strategy.
Connect Compliance, Product and Engineering
- Translate fraud and compliance needs into clear functional and technical requirements.
- Work closely with Product, Engineering and Data teams to design or enhance internal capabilities.
- Define acceptance criteria and coordinate testing before changes are released.
- Support the development of dashboards and reporting on alert volumes, detection effectiveness, system performance and operational outcomes.
- Maintain clear documentation covering system configuration, rule changes, decisions and operating procedures.
- Train relevant teams on the effective use of the platforms.
What you bring
- Solid understanding of fraud, AML or transaction-monitoring processes (mandatory)
- Significant experience with fraud-detection, transaction-monitoring or financial-crime technology within payments, fintech, banking or financial services.
- Hands-on experience configuring and optimising platforms such as SEON, Featurespace or comparable solutions.
- Experience with fraud rules, thresholds, scoring models or transaction-monitoring scenarios.
- Strong analytical skills and the ability to work with large and imperfect datasets.
- Working knowledge of SQL and data-analysis or business-intelligence tools.
- Understanding of key model-performance concepts, including confusion matrices, precision, recall and false-positive rates.
- Ability to understand APIs, integrations and data flows and to work effectively with Engineering and Data teams.
- Experience translating operational or regulatory needs into clear technical requirements.
- Strong ownership, autonomy and drive.
- The ability to challenge existing solutions and make evidence-based recommendations.
- Clear communication skills and the ability to work across technical and non-technical teams.
Nice to have
- Experience implementing or migrating fraud or compliance platforms.
- Knowledge of payment flows, issuing, acquiring or e-money environments.
- Experience with Python or advanced data-analysis techniques.
- Experience with AI-enabled compliance tooling or workflow automation.
- Experience managing third-party technology vendors.
- Familiarity with Jira, Confluence and product-development practices.
Reporting line
You will report to the Head of Product within the GRC product service line, with a strong functional relationship to the Head of Compliance and close collaboration with Engineering, Data and Compliance Operations.
Your first priorities
During your first months, you will be expected to:
- Take over ownership of SEON and Featurespace current setup, rules, integrations and known issues.
- Revise the baseline for platform and alert performance.
- Improve the identification of false positives drivers and operational inefficiency.
- Revise and deploy the recalibration approach.
- Establish a sustainable feedback loop between Operations, Compliance, Product and Engineering teams.
- Produce a prioritised roadmap for the further development of Paynovate’s financial-crime technology.
