Job Description: Deputy Head of Model Reporting
How does this role contribute to our collective success?
The Deputy Head of Model Reporting is a senior member of the Capital Modelling team, responsible for leading key uses of AXIS’s internal capital model, which is built on the Tyche platform, and collaborating on its development, validation and governance. The role supports the Head of Model Reporting, providing technical direction, delivery oversight and continuity of leadership.
The role has particular responsibility for business plan integration, reinsurance analysis, risk profile monitoring, and the calculation and analysis of regulatory capital for AXIS’s Lloyd’s syndicates. Working closely with Ceded Reinsurance, Pricing, Third-Party Capital and other stakeholders, the Deputy Head ensures that analysis is robust, clearly communicated and delivered to the required standard and timetable.
What will you do in this role?
Model use and reporting
- Lead the incorporation of new business plans into the internal model and analyse movements from the previous plan.
- Explain the resulting impact on capital requirements, risk profile and model outputs to senior management and other stakeholders.
- Monitor and report changes in AXIS’s risk profile, highlighting material movements, concentrations and implications for capital.
- Oversee accurate and timely management and regulatory capital reporting, with clear explanations of drivers, assumptions, judgements and limitations.
- Lead the calculation and analysis of regulatory capital for AXIS’s Lloyd’s syndicates.
- Undertake targeted analysis of emerging capital, risk, regulatory and business issues, presenting conclusions and recommendations.
Reinsurance analysis
- Partner with Ceded Reinsurance, Pricing and Third-Party Capital to assess proposed outwards reinsurance and retrocession arrangements.
- Use internal model outputs to evaluate capital impact and risk transfer effectiveness, including key drivers, limitations and sensitivities.
- Use the internal model to support the pricing and assessment of AXIS’s intragroup reinsurance covers.
- Ensure that analysis is appropriately reviewed, documented and communicated to relevant decision-makers.
Model updates, validation and governance
- Lead or oversee model updates required to reflect developments in AXIS’s business, risk profile, material exposures and modelling requirements.
- Ensure that changes are supported by clear analysis, testing and documentation; explain material movements and their underlying causes.
- Maintain a thorough understanding of the model’s structure, inputs, outputs, assumptions, limitations and dependencies on external economic and catastrophe models.
- Contribute to validation of model methods, inputs, outputs and implementation, using findings to identify limitations and prioritise future development.
- Provide constructive challenge to methods, assumptions, judgements and results; support timely resolution of findings and actions.
- Maintain proportionate documentation covering methodology, assumptions, parameter selections, changes, limitations and intended uses.
- Prepare clear materials for management and governance forums, and maintain appropriate records of decisions, reviews and actions.
- Identify opportunities to improve the efficiency, reliability and transparency of model processes and reporting.
Leadership
- Oversee key deliverables, ensuring that work is technically robust, appropriately reviewed and clearly documented.
- Help plan and prioritise the team’s work, allocate responsibilities and monitor delivery against agreed deadlines.
- Provide technical direction, constructive review and coaching; directly manage and develop junior team members.
- Escalate material issues, uncertainties and delivery risks promptly, with a clear assessment and proposed resolution.
- Promote proportionate controls, effective review and continuous improvement across the team’s processes.
Stakeholder relationships and communication
- Build effective relationships across Capital Modelling, Ceded Reinsurance, Pricing, Third-Party Capital and other relevant functions.
- Engage stakeholders early to clarify requirements, resolve issues and support timely delivery.
- Provide clear technical advice while recognising the commercial, regulatory and governance context.
