$114.70 - $183.50

Major Responsibilities:

Ensures clinically appropriate, ethical, and regulatorily compliant husbandry and veterinary care of animals. 

Oversees the operation of the animal facilities and the duties of veterinarians, managers, supervisors, and staff. 

Establishes the acceptable standards for veterinary medicine for all species used in research across the enterprise.  

Together with the IACUC, works to maintain good standing with USDA, participates in inspections, and ensures responsiveness to any concerns.  

Works in conjunction with the IACUC to maintain accreditation with AAALAC, including assisting in the preparation of annual reports, documents for re-accreditation process at three-year intervals, multi-day site visits, and other duties.  

Oversees externship and residency programs for clinical medicine and veterinary pathology. 

  

Rotates for clinical medicine duty with other faculty and staff veterinarians, including weekend and holiday duty.  

Provides guidance to investigators on matters related to IACUC protocols, rules and regulations, animal models, and animal research resources.  

Coordinates with the Vice Dean for Research Oversight and Integrity, and the Vice Dean for Basic and Pre-clinical Research, regarding matters of potential animal security risks and community engagement. 

Supports the animal research needs of investigators (e.g., appropriate animal housing conditions, access to ARP resources) to ensure appropriate and timely conduct of research.  

Education:

DVM or VMD degree from an institution accredited by the American Veterinary Medical Association. 

Certification / License:

Licensed Veterinarian 

Work Experience:

Requires ten years in the functional area, including five years of management-level experience.  

Significant experience with Laboratory Animal Medicine. Previous leadership experience in animal resources. 

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities:

Excellent oral and written communication skills. 

Demonstrates excellence in the overall mix of veterinary care, supporting scholarly activity that advances clinical medicine, institutional service, and area leadership.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

Standing, walking, sitting, bending, reaching with arms, Finger and hand dexterity, talking, hearing, seeing, Lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling up to 100 lbs.

Preferred Job Requirements 

Education 

Advanced academic training as evidenced by an M.S. or Ph.D. preferred.  

Certification / License 

Board Certification in Laboratory Animal Medicine preferred.  

Experience 

Experience leading within a large, multi-campus program. 

Experience with a wide variety of species.
