Description
SEND Teaching Assistant – Autism Support
Location: Fleet, Hampshire | Immediate Start | Until July 2027
Are you a Psychology graduate with knowledge of Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) and a genuine interest in supporting children with additional needs?
Looking to gain hands-on experience before pursuing a career in teaching, educational psychology or a specialist SEND role?
We are working with a welcoming, inclusive primary school in Fleet to recruit a dedicated SEND Teaching Assistant to support two children with autism for the remainder of the academic year.
About the role
- Both children have significant sensory and emotional regulation needs and benefit from consistent, individualised support throughout the school day.
- One child is more academically able and communicates verbally, although their speech and language skills remain limited.
- You will help both children access learning, develop their communication and manage sensory demands, using regular movement breaks and proactive strategies to support their regulation.
- Patience, initiative and an understanding of autism are essential, alongside the ability to build positive, trusting relationships.
Why this school?
- The school has a strong inclusive ethos, with a focus on helping every child reach their potential. Its approach combines ambitious learning with an emphasis on wellbeing, self-regulation and resilience.
- This is an excellent opportunity to gain practical experience in a supportive mainstream primary setting while developing your understanding of autism and inclusive education.
What we're looking for:
- A Psychology graduate with knowledge of ASC and relevant experience supporting autistic children.
- A patient, proactive and adaptable approach.
- Someone keen to develop a career in teaching or SEND.
- Immediate availability and a commitment through to the end of the academic year.
This is a rewarding opportunity to make a meaningful difference to children's learning and development while gaining valuable experience for your future career.
