We have an exciting opportunity for a Product Manager to join our Business Lending product tīma (team). The role is responsible for ensuring BNZ’s business overdraft products are managed strategically to optimise financial performance, and ensure that products remain fit for purpose, meeting our customer's current and future needs.
The Business Lending domain within BNZ Customer, Products and Services (CP&S) is an exciting and driven work environment where you'll get to maintain and develop market leading products, services and customer propositions. You’ll also get to be heavily involved in substantial transformation initiatives to replace legacy lending systems and product platforms, which will provide a critical foundation for BNZ to continue to grow and innovate as New Zealand’s largest business bank.
Reporting to the Product Portfolio Manager - Business Lending, you'll be part of a tīma that is critical to how BNZ turns up for NZ businesses from the smallest small business to the largest institutional client.

This is a permanent, full-time opportunity based in Auckland. This is a hybrid role with three days in the office and two days where you can work flexibly.
What are 5 day to day tasks the person in this role will complete?
- Apply strong product management, design, development and leadership skills to support BNZ’s business overdraft strategy, automation and processes.
- Own subject matter expertise for business overdraft or Business Lending products, focusing on customer, commercial, risk and compliance outcomes.
- Understand the business, agribusiness and commercial property lending markets, identifying customer needs and opportunities to support market-leading product designs.
- Manage risks, events, findings and treatment plans promptly, while completing product reviews as required.
- Lead and communicate product change initiatives internally and externally.
What is the most exciting thing about this opportunity?
The most exciting part of this opportunity is the variety and the chance to make a real difference. You’ll combine hands-on ownership of business overdraft products with involvement in significant transformation, including modernising legacy platforms, improving the customer experience and creating better ways for New Zealand businesses to access and manage funding. It’s a role where you can deliver meaningful improvements for customers while helping BNZ strengthen its business lending offering to support businesses in New Zealand.
What skills and experience are required for this role?
- 3+ years experience in relevant lending, product development/management, projects, or technology delivery environment.
- A passion for solving real customer problems, with experience using various methods to elicit and document customers’ and stakeholders’ requirements and delivery of these to market.
- Strong influencing and stakeholder management skills.
- Exceptional communication skills, high level of attention to detail and strong written skills.
- Skilled in financial analysis and business case development.
- Ability to identify risks, mitigate and gain decisions quickly.
Desirable:
- Experience with Business Lending products (ideally including business overdrafts).
- Experience with system implementations or re-platforming.
