Job Title: Chief Medical Officer

Schedule: Monday – Friday 9:00am – 5:30pm and some weekends as needed. 

Supervisor: Chief Executive Officer

Department: Clinical Administration

Job Type: Full-Time (37.5 hours weekly)

FLSA: Exempt


 Bronx Community Health Network is seeking an experienced physician executive to serve as Chief Medical Officer. This is a rare opportunity to shape clinical care for one of the most underserved communities in the country at a moment of significant organizational growth.


The Chief Medical Officer is the senior physician executive at BCHN, with primary responsibility for clinical quality, provider performance, productivity, and patient outcomes across all BCHN clinical services and sites.

Founded in 1996, Bronx Community Health Network is a not-for-profit, community-based organization and Federally Qualified Health Center. BCHN ensures that low-income and medically underserved residents of the Bronx have access to high-quality, comprehensive health care.


BCHN provides coordinated primary medical, oral, and mental health care along with diagnostic, pharmacy, social support, and enabling services. Our service area covers the entire borough of the Bronx and all 25 zip codes, with sites focused on low-income and underserved populations.


Our mission is to improve the health of people and families in the Bronx, provide access to affordable and quality health care, promote disease prevention and early treatment, and secure the resources that make this work possible.


Key Responsibilities:


Clinical Quality and Patient Safety

  • Maintain and advance the standard of care delivered to all BCHN patients.
  • Direct the quality assurance and quality improvement program as it relates to patient care.
  • Review and update standards of practice and clinical protocols.
  • Address clinical risk management matters and lead clinical incident review.
  • Review patient complaints and satisfaction data and direct responses where clinically indicated.
  • Lead the ongoing development and clinical optimization of the electronic health record.

Provider Leadership and Workforce

  • Lead recruitment, orientation, evaluation, and retention of clinicians and direct patient care providers
  • Oversee credentialing and privileging for all BCHN clinicians, including students and trainees
  • Establish performance standards and provide formal and informal feedback to providers
  • Recommend and participate in final determinations on clinical disciplinary action
  • Arrange clinical call coverage and approve clinical time off and continuing education requests
  • Plan in-service training and orientation for clinical staff
  • Build collaborative clinical teams and convene regular clinician meetings

Regulatory and Compliance

  • Oversee BCHN's medical policies and procedures, including scope of service under the Section 330 application and FTCA coverage
  • Maintain compliance with HRSA Health Center Program requirements, Article 28, HIPAA, OSHA, infection control, and patient privacy requirements
  • Support audit readiness, survey preparation, and clinical documentation standards
  • Provide clinical oversight of ancillary services including laboratory, radiology, and pharmacy
  • Contribute clinical data and analysis to UDS and other required reporting

Strategic and Organizational Leadership

  • Partner with the CEO, CFO, COO, and Executive Leadership Team to advance strategic, operational, and clinical goals
  • Participate in strategic planning and recommend clinical priorities and objectives
  • Present on clinical quality and improvement to the Board of Directors on a regular basis
  • Participate in development of the clinical budget and ongoing financial monitoring
  • Interpret clinical data for executive leadership and the Board
  • Support grant development and review clinical components of proposals and reports
  • Serve as clinical liaison to the local and state medical community, professional societies, health officials, and training institutions
  • Represent BCHN in public forums and in the community as appropriate
  • Support new site openings, mobile health operations, emergency preparedness, and special projects

Clinical Practice

  • Provide direct primary care to BCHN patients for a minimum of three days per week

Qualifications: 


Required

  • MD or DO from an accredited medical school
  • Current, unrestricted license to practice medicine in New York State
  • Board certification in Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, Obstetrics and Gynecology, or a related primary care specialty
  • Current DEA controlled substance registration in good standing
  • Current BLS certification
  • Minimum of three years of clinical practice
  • Demonstrated experience in ambulatory clinical operations, quality improvement, and performance metrics
  • Experience leading and developing clinical teams

Preferred

  • Experience in a community health center or FQHC setting
  • Experience in health care administration in a community health environment
  • Familiarity with HRSA Health Center Program requirements, Article 28 licensure, and FTCA
  • Spanish language proficiency

Compensation and Benefits


The base salary range for this position is $260,000 to $325,000 annually.


Total compensation for the selected finalist will be determined based on level of experience, education, accomplishments, internal equity, budget, and Fair Market Value evaluation. The range above is a good faith determination at the time of posting and may be modified in the future.
