CTE Instructional Assistant

Career and Technical Education

Full-Time  •  Pay Range: $40,000.00 - $46,000.00 annual salary

About This Role

Match High School & Career Center is a tuition-free public charter school serving Indianapolis students through rigorous Career and Technical Education pathways. Our students come with extraordinary potential — and our staff shows up every day to meet it. You will be surrounded by a visible, supportive administration, dedicated pathway instructors, and colleagues who put students first.

The CTE Instructional Assistant works alongside pathway instructors to provide direct, hands-on support to students developing the academic, technical, and employability skills they need for college, careers, and the workforce. This role helps ensure students stay engaged, complete pathway requirements, earn industry credentials, and access meaningful career-connected learning experiences.

Primary Responsibilities

Instructional Support

  • Under the direction of the Director of CTE and the Business Pathway teacher, facilitate assigned sections of Preparing for College and Careers.
  • Work directly with CTE instructors to provide instructional support to individual students and small groups, reinforcing skills, concepts, and procedures introduced in class.
  • Help students complete pathway assignments, projects, certifications, and portfolios — and provide additional support for those who need intervention or extra practice.
  • Assist with differentiating instruction for students with varying academic and technical skill levels, helping them connect classroom learning to real-world career applications.
  • Support the administration of assessments, monitor student progress, and help maintain accurate records related to credentials, competencies, and pathway completion.
  • Assist instructors with preparing materials, labs, and learning experiences; support students in using instructional technology, industry software, and digital tools effectively.
  • Participate in professional development related to CTE instruction, pathway programming, and student support.

Career Pathways & Workforce Development

  • Support students in exploring careers connected to their pathway — including opportunities, requirements, credentials, and advancement pathways within their industry.
  • Help students develop resumes, practice interview skills, and build the professional communication and workplace habits employers expect.
  • Support workforce development activities including employer visits, career fairs, job shadowing, internships, and work-based learning experiences.
  • Assist with tracking student participation in dual credit, industry certifications, internships, and other pathway opportunities.
  • Help maintain relationships with employers, community organizations, colleges, and industry partners; participate in career-related events and student showcases as needed.

Classroom Environment & Safety

  • Reinforce classroom and laboratory routines, behavior expectations, and school-wide PBIS systems consistently and fairly.
  • Support the instructor in maintaining an orderly, focused, and productive learning environment — redirecting off-task behavior and managing transitions, group work, and lab rotations.
  • Model calm, respectful adult responses in every student interaction; communicate concerns to the supervising instructor or administrator promptly.
  • Ensure students properly use tools, equipment, materials, and personal protective equipment; immediately report safety concerns or damaged equipment.
  • Assist with inventory, organization, and preparation of pathway classrooms and laboratories for daily instruction.
  • Support compliance with applicable school, industry, state, and federal safety requirements.

Student & Family Support

  • Build positive, consistent relationships with students — encouraging engagement, reinforcing high expectations, and serving as a professional role model.
  • Collaborate with teachers, counselors, special education staff, multilingual learner staff, and other support personnel to meet the full range of student needs.
  • Support accommodations and interventions as directed; help identify students who may need additional academic, behavioral, or social-emotional support.
  • Communicate with students and families regarding pathway expectations, student progress, and upcoming opportunities; help families understand CTE programming available to their students.
  • Assist with pathway recruitment, open houses, showcases, and community events.

School Community

  • Assist with student arrival, dismissal, transitions, lunch, testing, and other school-wide responsibilities as assigned.
  • Participate in staff meetings, collaborative planning, working groups, and professional development.
  • Maintain student confidentiality, follow all school policies, and perform other duties as assigned in support of the school's mission.

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree, technical certification, industry credential, or relevant college coursework preferred.
  • Experience working with high school students, preferably in a CTE, workforce development, skilled trades, or educational setting.
  • Ability to work effectively with students from a diverse range of backgrounds and learning needs.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills; ability to provide individual and small-group instructional support.
  • Demonstrated classroom management skills — able to reinforce routines and behavior expectations in classroom, laboratory, and shop settings.
  • Proficiency with standard productivity software and learning management systems; ability to learn new instructional technology and pathway-specific platforms quickly.
  • Comfortable working in traditional classrooms as well as CTE labs, shops, technical spaces, and workplace settings.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound professional judgment.
  • A genuine belief that all students, regardless of background, can achieve at high levels and graduate prepared for college, career, and life.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience as an instructional assistant, paraprofessional, career coach, or youth development professional.
  • Industry experience or industry-recognized credentials in a CTE pathway area.
  • Experience with digital design, fabrication, coding, diagnostic tools, or other pathway-specific technology.
  • Training or experience in classroom management, positive behavior supports, or restorative practices.
  • Experience supporting internships, apprenticeships, or work-based learning programs.
  • CPR, First Aid, OSHA, or other applicable safety credentials (preferred depending on pathway assignment).

What We Expect

  • A genuine growth mindset — you welcome coaching, feedback, and the opportunity to keep getting better.
  • Reliability and consistency — your students, your instructor, and your team count on you to show up and follow through.
  • Professionalism around students at all times — calm, respectful, and steady even in difficult moments.
  • Punctuality and attendance — being present every day is a direct act of care for the students you serve.
  • Proactive communication — you flag concerns early, ask questions, and keep the right people informed.
  • A genuine belief that every student can achieve at high levels, regardless of background or circumstance.
