Job Description:

The Graduate Coordinator Technical Director / Production Specialist supports the production, technical operations, and educational mission of the university’s theatre program. This position assists with scenic design drafting, shop supervision, production builds, and maintenance of theatre equipment. The role works closely with faculty, staff, and students to ensure safe, efficient, and professional theatre production practices.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Scene Shop Operations

• Supervise student crews in the construction, painting, and installation of scenery.
• Lead students in the safe use of shop tools and equipment.
• Maintain shop organization and cleanliness.
• Enforce OSHA safety standards and theatre best practices.
• Assist in the load-in, strike, and storage of scenic elements.

Technical Theatre Support

• Assist with the planning, installation, and operations, as well as maintaining lighting and designs.
• Audio systems and sound reinforcement
• Scenic installation and stage rigging
• Projection or multimedia elements when needed

Responsibilities may include:

• Hanging and focusing lighting instruments
• Programming lighting consoles
• Setting up microphones and audio reinforcement
• Maintaining cables, lighting instruments, and technical inventory

Theatre Facilities & Equipment Maintenance

Assist in maintaining the theatre’s technical infrastructure, including:

• Lighting systems and dimmers
• Audio systems and microphones
• Rigging systems
• Stage equipment and tools
• Shop equipment and workspaces
• This includes routine inspections, repairs, cleaning, and inventory management.

Provide technical support for departmental and university events, including:

• Theatre productions
• Student performances
• University Big Band concerts and events
• Guest performances and rentals
• Assist with audio and lighting setup and operation for these events.

Job Requirements: Education, Experience and Skills:

The appointed individual will:

• Have a High School diploma or GED equivalent with a Bachelor's degree preferred.
• Have experience with administrative skills including Microsoft Office and organizing and tracking files, with preference given to a candidate with experience working in a college setting.

Salary/Hours/Benefits

• A stipend of $10,000 per year.
• 20 hours per week for 12 months
