Description
TECHNICAL PRODUCT OWNER Full-Time | Utah First Credit Union | Salt Lake City, UT
TECHNICAL PRODUCT OWNER
Information Technology Role
Utah First Credit Union is seeking a technically fluent, business-minded Technical Product Owner to join our Information Technology team in a full-time capacity (40 hours per week). Reporting directly to the SVP, Information Technology, this role will define and execute product strategy for Utah First's core and digital banking platform.
This is an on-site position based at Utah First Credit Union's corporate headquarters in Salt Lake City. Regular in-person presence is expected to collaborate effectively with business leaders, technology teams, and external partners.
The Technical Product Owner serves as the bridge between business strategy and technical execution. The Technical Product Owner will translate organizational priorities into actionable roadmaps, specifications, and measurable outcomes while balancing innovation with reliability, scalability, security, and regulatory expectations.
THE DIFFERENCE YOU'LL MAKE
The Technical Product Owner owns the vision, strategy, roadmap, and delivery outcomes for Utah First's core banking and related technology products, with primary ownership of the Credit Union's instance of the Jack Henry Platform (Symitar, Banno, etc.).
Working across business units, internal technology teams, engineering resources, and third-party vendors, the Technical Product Owner will convert business objectives into clear technical requirements and prioritized work. The role is accountable for making informed tradeoffs among new capabilities, technical debt, scalability, system performance, risk, and member impact.
The successful candidate will combine product leadership, technical judgment, analytical discipline, and strong communication skills. This person will operate independently in a lean environment and drive progress through productive partnerships with internal and external delivery teams.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategy and Roadmap: Define the technical product vision, strategy, and roadmap, aligning internal engineering efforts and third-party technology vendor deliverables with Utah First's business goals.
Jack Henry Platform Product Ownership: Create, own, prioritize, and refine the product backlog for Utah First's Jack Henry Platform (Symitar, Banno, other JHA applications) environment, balancing feature requests with technical debt, scalability, system performance, risk, and operational needs.
Cross-Functional Partnership: Translate business objectives into precise technical specifications, user stories, acceptance criteria, and architectural requirements for internal engineering teams and third-party technology vendors.
Feasibility and Architecture: Evaluate technical constraints, validate system design decisions, and oversee integrations and technology-stack compatibility to support stable, scalable solutions.
Risk and Quality Management: Proactively identify, assess, and mitigate technical risks, information-security and compliance considerations, quality concerns, and performance bottlenecks.
Data-Driven Execution: Define success metrics, analyze product and operational data, conduct appropriate experiments such as A/B tests, and use database queries or reporting tools to evaluate performance and inform priorities.
LEADERSHIP AND TECHNICAL APPROACH
This role requires deep technical fluency without serving as a production software engineering position. The Technical Product Owner must understand software development principles, system architecture, APIs, integrations, and data pipelines well enough to challenge assumptions, assess tradeoffs, and guide sound technical decisions.
The successful candidate will communicate effectively with both non-technical stakeholders and highly technical engineering talent, create clarity amid complexity, and sustain momentum with minimal direct supervision. Coding proficiency is beneficial but writing production code is not required.
WHAT YOU BRING
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Business, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
Proven experience managing the product lifecycle from concept and beta testing through launch, adoption, optimization, and scale.
Direct experience with Credit Union Core and Digital Banking platforms is required; Jack Henry (Symitar, Banno, Silverlake, etc.) experience and experience working with a credit union are highly desirable.
Strong knowledge of software development principles, system architecture, APIs, integrations, and data pipelines; coding proficiency is a plus but is not required.
Demonstrated ability to translate business needs into technical specifications, user stories, acceptance criteria, and prioritized product backlogs.
Hands-on experience with data analysis, product and performance metrics, experimentation, and data-informed decision-making.
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage credibly with business leaders, operational teams, engineers, and external vendors.
Independent, resourceful self-starter who can learn quickly, make sound decisions, and maintain progress in a lean environment with minimal direct supervision.
WHAT WE BRING
This role offers the opportunity to shape how technology products support Utah First's next phase of growth. The Technical Product Owner will have meaningful ownership of critical platforms, influence enterprise priorities, and help deliver reliable, scalable experiences for employees and members.
You will join a collaborative, purpose-driven organization that values initiative, thoughtful innovation, accountability, and the ability to turn complex challenges into practical results.
BENEFITS
Salary will be based on experience. Utah First Credit Union offers a comprehensive benefits package including health insurance, medical, dental, and vision coverage, 20 PTO days, 11 paid holidays, a 401(k) plan, and company contributions to a Health Savings Account.
