General Statement of Job:Performs skilled and team-oriented work supporting the maintenance, daily operations, and upkeep of municipal golf courses to ensure safe, attractive, and high-quality playing conditions for patrons and the community. Assists in coordinating daily maintenance activities, provides direction, guidance, and support to maintenance personnel, and promotes a collaborative, efficient, safe, and service-focused work environment. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Golf Course Superintendent, with responsibility for providing day-to-day direction and oversight to assigned staff.
- Leads and works alongside maintenance staff to foster a cooperative, respectful, and team-oriented work environment.
- Provides daily guidance, instruction, and hands-on support to employees to ensure high-quality turf and course conditions.
- Communicates clear expectations, priorities, and performance standards to promote efficiency and accountability.
- Coordinates daily work assignments and adjusts workloads as needed to ensure timely completion of course maintenance activities.
- Trains and mentors' employees in proper maintenance techniques, equipment operation, safety procedures, and established work practices.
- Promotes a strong culture of workplace safety by modeling safe work practices, conducting safety discussions, and addressing hazards promptly.
- Monitors work progress and provide constructive, real-time feedback to maintain quality standards.
- Supports employee development by providing coaching, mentoring, and opportunities for continued learning.
- Addresses employee questions and concerns appropriately and promotes open, respectful communication.
- Assists in resolving workplace conflicts and maintaining positive working relationships among team members.
- Collaborates with golf course management and golf operations staff to coordinate maintenance activities with daily play schedules, tournaments, and special events.
- Helps ensure golf course conditions, appearance, and playability meet established standards and enhance the experience of golfers and the community.
- Assists staff in troubleshooting equipment, irrigation, turf, and other maintenance-related issues.
- Helps ensure employees have the appropriate tools, equipment, materials, and information necessary to perform their duties effectively.
- Reinforces customer-service expectations and promotes positive interactions between maintenance staff, golfers, visitors, and the public.
- Serves as a liaison between maintenance staff and supervisors to facilitate clear communication and consistent direction.
- Models professionalism, accountability, integrity, and respect in interactions with coworkers, golfers, and the public.

- Assists in maintaining accurate records related to crew activities, employee training, safety compliance, and other operational matters.

RELATED TASKS
- Works collaboratively with maintenance staff in mowing, edging, trimming, irrigation, bunker maintenance, landscaping, course setup, and other golf course maintenance activities.
- Assists with the operation, inspection, troubleshooting, repair, and adjustment of golf course irrigation systems to maintain appropriate turf coverage, irrigation efficiency, and quality playing conditions.
- During short-term or temporary absences of the Golf Course Superintendent, assumes assigned duties and responsibilities necessary to maintain continuity of daily golf course maintenance operations, including providing direction and oversight to maintenance staff.
- Provides hands-on instruction and support to new, seasonal, and less-experienced employees.
- Participates in tailgate meetings, safety briefings, staff meetings, and other operational discussions.
- Recognizes employee contributions and supports a positive, productive, and morale-focused work environment.
- Coordinates with golf operations personnel to support tournaments, special events, and other scheduled activities.
- Assists with monitoring equipment and maintenance needs and reports issues requiring additional attention.
- Helps ensure work areas, equipment, and maintenance practices comply with established City standards, policies, procedures, safety requirements, and applicable regulations.
- Assists with the application of fertilizers, pesticides, herbicides, and other turf-care products in accordance with product labels, applicable federal, state, and local regulations, and established golf course maintenance practices.
- Assists with maintaining accurate records related to turf-care applications, irrigation activities, equipment maintenance, staff training, and safety compliance.

- Assist with the operation, inspection, troubleshooting, repair, and adjustment of golf course irrigation systems.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Two (2) years of progressively responsible management-level experience in golf course, park, landscape, or grounds maintenance, including supervising staff, planning and assigning work, and overseeing daily maintenance operations.
- Experience operating and inspecting grounds maintenance equipment safely, and performing routine maintenance and adjustments.
- Valid State of Florida Class “E” driver’s license
- Vocational training, coursework, or education in turf management, horticulture, agronomy, or a related field.
- Five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in golf course, park, landscape, or grounds maintenance.
- Direct experience maintaining golf course greens, tees, fairways, roughs, and bunkers.
- Experience inspecting, troubleshooting, repairing, and adjusting golf course irrigation systems.
- Advanced knowledge of turf health, cultural maintenance practices, pest management, and irrigation scheduling.
- Valid State of Florida Pesticide Applicator License, or the ability to obtain one within six (6) months of hire.
