An excellent opportunity for an experienced Asset Accountant to join an established organisation and take ownership of the accuracy, integrity and compliance of its financial asset records.
Reporting to a senior member of the finance team, you’ll support asset accounting, capital projects, statutory reporting, audit and asset valuations, while partnering with stakeholders across the organisation.
The Role
- Maintain accurate and compliant asset registers and financial asset records
- Process asset additions, capitalisations, transfers, disposals, write-offs, depreciation, impairment and revaluations
- Reconcile asset registers, capital work in progress (CWIP) and balance sheet accounts to the general ledger
- Monitor capital projects and ensure correct classification of capital and operating expenditure
- Work with project managers and asset custodians to identify completed assets and capitalisation requirements
- Support capital expenditure reporting and monitor project progress
- Coordinate month-end and year-end journals, reconciliations, financial statement notes and audit schedules
- Support asset valuations and revaluations
- Provide practical asset accounting advice to stakeholders
- Support internal and external audits
- Improve asset data quality, financial controls, policies, processes and reporting
- Step into more senior financial accounting responsibilities when required
About You
- Tertiary qualification in Accounting, Finance or a related discipline
- Demonstrated experience across asset registers, capitalisation, depreciation, disposals, reconciliations and CWIP
- Sound knowledge of accounting standards relating to property, plant, equipment and infrastructure assets
- Experience developing and improving accounting policies, procedures, processes and controls
- Strong analytical, problem-solving and communication skills
- Ability to coordinate year-end, audit and valuation requirements
- Current National Police Clearance, or willingness to obtain one
Highly Regarded
- CPA, CA or equivalent membership, or working towards qualification
- Local government or public sector experience
- TechnologyOne or another integrated financial and asset management system
- Experience supporting asset valuations, revaluations and annual financial reporting
