This is an exciting opportunity to join bp’s tax reporting team, a high-performing team of accounting, tax and control specialists who are responsible for analysing, assuring, and explaining bp’s externally reported tax numbers.
Reporting to the VP Tax Reporting, the Tax Senior Manager, Tax Reporting is accountable for the consolidation of bp’s externally reported tax numbers and forecasting the group effective tax rate (ETR) and cash tax.
The role is global in nature and provides an excellent opportunity for the successful applicant to gain exposure to a wide range of tax and accounting issues and insight into the Group’s global reporting and forecasting processes and underlying business activities.
Key Accountabilities:
Tax reporting and assurance
• Preparation, consolidation and assurance of bp’s quarterly externally reported tax numbers, including income tax charge, ETR and cash tax disclosures.
• Ensure tax balances, provisions and disclosures are robust, transparent and compliant with IFRS, bp policy and governance requirements.
• Act as a key point of engagement with Group Reporting, Investor Relations and Group Planning & Performance Management on tax matters.
•Support continuous improvement in controls, processes and systems underpinning tax reporting and forecasting.
Forecasting and planning
• Provide tax inputs into internal forecasting processes, including the latest estimates, quarterly outlooks, long‑term plans and scenario analysis for ETR and cash taxes.
Team management
• Lead and develop the tax reporting consolidation team, setting clear expectations and fostering a strong culture of accountability and technical excellence.
As a Senior Level Leader within bp, the role holder will also be expected to inspire and empower others to achieve organisational aims whilst creating a culture in line with Who We Are, fostering a culture of accountability and inspiring trust. The role holder will be expected to build strong relationships, understand the needs and goals of the team, and drive a culture of continuous improvement in service of bp’s strategic direction.
Essential Experience and Qualifications:
• Significant practical expertise in group financial reporting under IFRS.
• Strong analytical skills and ability to interpret and communicate financial information with clarity.
• An understanding of internal systems of control, and how this applies to tax.
• Exceptional organisational skills, ability to manage and lead the effective delivery of multiple workstreams, leading others through structured delivery (such as time-table driven reporting cycles) and to work autonomously or with limited guidance.
• Experience with tax accounting concepts such as deferred tax.
• Exposure to short-term and long‑term planning and forecasting.
• Experience driving process improvement or transformation within financial reporting, forecasting or controls frameworks.
• Fluency in business English.
Education/Background and Experience:
• Professional accounting qualification (e.g. ACA, ACCA or equivalent)
• Degree qualified or equivalent experience/education
Desirable Criteria:
• In depth knowledge of IFRS income tax accounting, including deferred tax accounting, significant judgement areas and tax disclosures.
• In depth experience of extracting data from underlying accounting systems
• Highly proficient in Microsoft Excel and PowerBi
