The San Gabriel Community Services Department is seeking motivated, enthusiastic, dedicated, caring, and reliable individuals for the position of Community Services Leader. The ideal candidate appreciates public service and works effectively within a diverse community, possesses leadership qualities, has public relations skills, and has a strong desire to serve the community.
JOB SUMMARY
Under the Community Services Department the Community Services Leader is a versatile position that will staff both Recreation programs as well as Mission Playhouse events. The Community Services Leader will also be utilized for the staffing of special city-wide events throughout the year.While performing job duties for Recreation programs, the Community Services Leader will be under the direction of the Recreation Supervisor. Programs cover a full range of activities including homework assistance, sports, games, recreation activities, and special events. The Recreation Leader will also teach the basic fundamentals of play and sportsmanship in organized team activities.
While performing job duties for the Mission Playhouse, the Community Services Leader will be under the direction of the Playhouse Coordinator. Events include, but are not limited to theatrical, musical, or dance performances at the San Gabriel Mission Playhouse. Responsibilities include collecting box office tickets, advising patrons of program activities, directing pedestrian and vehicle traffic, assisting with box office, and assisting with concession sales.
NOTICE: This recruitment will be filling current vacancies in Recreation. The ideal candidate for this position must be available weekday (Monday - Friday) afternoons from 1:00PM - 6:30PM.
Community Services Leader
Any equivalent combination of training experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities could be considered.
- Must possess basic skills and knowledge of exemplary customer service.
- Must have the ability to maintain effective working relationships with staff members, volunteers, and the general public.
- The ideal candidate also must be able to complete certification in CPR and First Aid within 3-months of hire.
Desirable Qualities
- Open availability to work (Weekdays from 1:00 p.m. – 6:30 p.m., Nights, Weekends, and Holidays).
- Experience playing, coaching or volunteering in a sports or youth program is desirable.
- Experience working in theatre and/or live performing arts events or in a theatre box offices.
SPECIAL PROVISIONS
- Paid Training & Certification - The City shall provide and cover the cost of training and certification for applicants who are successfully hired as follows:
- American Red Cross First Aid and CPR Certification.
- Bilingual Pay - Bilingual pay of $0.58 per hour may be provided to employees who pass a proficiency examination in a second language such as Cantonese, Mandarin, Vietnamese, or Spanish. Bilingual pay shall be provided based on the need of the department and approval of the City. Eligibility and need will be determined on a case-by-case basis.
- PARS Program - Part-Time Employees are required to participate in the Public Retirement Services (PARS) retirement savings/investment program in-lieu of Social Security. Funds are transferable upon separation or retirement.

PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS
Candidates receiving a conditional offer of employment from the City for this position shall be required to satisfactorily complete a (1) supplemental application, (2) Live Scan fingerprint check, and (3) TB test. Unsatisfactory results and/or failure to successfully complete any part of pre-employment processes 1-3 shall void any conditional offer of employment for this position. The City maintains the sole discretion to waive any pre-employment item 1-3 if it is deemed appropriate. Such waivers must be approved by the Director of Human Resources & Risk Management.
