Job Description:
Parsons is looking for an amazingly talented Geotechnical Engineer-Design to join our team!
What You’ll Be Doing
- Review and interpret geotechnical investigation reports, borehole logs, laboratory results, geological information, and site investigation data.
- Develop and review geotechnical engineering assessments, calculations, technical reports, and recommendations.
- Provide geotechnical input to the design of foundations, retaining structures, earthworks, embankments, slopes, pavements, utilities, and underground infrastructure.
- Perform and review geotechnical analyses related to bearing capacity, settlement, slope stability, earth pressures, excavation, and groundwater conditions.
- Assess soil and rock parameters and develop appropriate engineering design parameters based on available investigation data.
- Review geotechnical investigation scopes and provide recommendations for additional investigations where required.
- Define requirements for boreholes, trial pits, CPTs, laboratory testing, groundwater monitoring, and other geotechnical investigations.
- Review geotechnical data for adequacy, consistency, and suitability for engineering design.
- Identify gaps, uncertainties, and risks within existing geotechnical information and recommend appropriate mitigation measures.
- Prepare and review geotechnical design criteria, calculations, specifications, and technical reports.
- Review geotechnical design packages, drawings, calculations, and technical submissions prepared by consultants and contractors.
- Provide technical review and comments on foundation design and ground conditions for buildings, structures, infrastructure, and airport facilities.
- Provide geotechnical engineering input to pavement design and assessment, including subgrade conditions, CBR values, pavement support parameters, and ground improvement requirements.
- Review requirements for earthworks, engineered fill, capping layers, subgrade treatment, and soil stabilization.
- Assess the suitability of proposed ground improvement techniques based on project conditions and performance requirements.
- Review and evaluate geotechnical design proposals for retaining walls, slopes, embankments, excavation support, and temporary works.
- Assess groundwater conditions and provide engineering recommendations related to dewatering, seepage, drainage, and groundwater control.
- Coordinate geotechnical aspects of underground utilities, tunnels, culverts, drainage structures, and other below-ground infrastructure.
- Provide geotechnical input to value engineering initiatives and alternative design proposals.
- Review proposed alternative materials, foundation systems, ground improvement methods, and construction solutions from a geotechnical perspective.
- Support technical responses to Requests for Information (RFIs), Technical Queries (TQs), Design Change Requests, and engineering clarifications.
- Investigate and provide engineering recommendations for unforeseen ground conditions encountered during construction.
- Review geotechnical-related Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) and provide technical recommendations for corrective actions.
- Coordinate with multidisciplinary engineering teams to ensure geotechnical requirements are incorporated into the overall design.
- Participate in design reviews, technical workshops, constructability reviews, and interdisciplinary coordination meetings.
- Provide technical support to Construction teams regarding the interpretation and implementation of geotechnical design requirements.
- Review contractor and specialist subcontractor geotechnical proposals and engineering submissions.
- Monitor geotechnical engineering risks and identify potential impacts on design, construction, cost, and schedule.
- Ensure geotechnical engineering deliverables comply with project requirements, applicable codes, standards, and Client specifications.
Airport / Airfield & Infrastructure Responsibilities
- Provide geotechnical engineering support for runway, taxiway, apron, airfield pavement, roads, utilities, drainage, and external infrastructure.
- Review geotechnical investigation and design requirements associated with major airport facilities and airfield infrastructure.
- Assess subgrade and foundation conditions for runways, taxiways, aprons, roads, and associated pavement systems.
- Provide engineering recommendations for weak or variable subgrade conditions and ground improvement requirements.
- Review geotechnical parameters used in airfield pavement and infrastructure design.
- Assess settlement, differential settlement, bearing capacity, and ground stability risks associated with airport infrastructure.
- Provide geotechnical engineering input to major foundation systems, including shallow and deep foundations where applicable.
- Review geotechnical requirements for fuel systems, utility corridors, drainage networks, culverts, and underground infrastructure.
- Support the engineering assessment of embankments, slopes, retaining structures, and earthworks associated with airfield and infrastructure development.
- Coordinate geotechnical requirements with pavement, civil, structural, utilities, and infrastructure engineering disciplines.
