8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Monday – Friday
NATURE OF WORK
Under general supervision/procedural control, performs a combination of accounting and related administrative support duties involving specialized knowledge of financial records and account coding, inputting and accessing information in the City's accounting and information systems, and reconciling accounts; performs related work as required.
HIRING HOURLY WAGE RANGEThis position typically hires between $35.30 - S40.43/Hr.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Receives and reconciles daily cash reports and deposits from all City departments investigating and resolving any errors with individual departments.
- Posts daily receipt batches (cash, checks, ACHs, point of sale) from cash reports and prepares deposits.
- Reconciles monthly bank statement deposits with the general ledger; identifying discrepancies and prepares correcting journal entries as necessary.
- Establish accounts receivable accruals and record receipt activity.
- Respond to customer inquiries and liaison with MN DOR in administering lodging tax.
- Assist in the internal audit (and annual financial audit) of the liquor stores inventory by performing counts and maintaining store inventory worksheet.
- Performs cash audits of various departments, counting all the cash on hand and maintaining workpapers for annual financial audit.
- Assists in preparation of monthly and annual financial reports as needed.
- Performs other duties that may be assigned.
COMPETENCIES
- Arithmetic and mathematics sufficient to compute the totals, averages and percentages of numerical data and to check or reconcile data.
- Accounting procedures sufficient to code, process and post accounting transactions for cash receipts and accounts receivable function.
- Basic accounting and business principles sufficient to monitor, collect and analyze data and implement minor procedural and transactional changes in fiscal operations.
- Office procedures, methods, equipment, a variety of office/financial software products, sufficient to input and access information in computer systems.
- Knowledge of basic governmental accounting principles.
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, and Access.
- Demonstrates skill in the use of financial accounting software (J.D. Edwards or Oracle preferred).
- Ability to deal effectively and tactfully with the public, vendors and various City employees.
- Ability to establish and maintain positive, professional working relationships with others.
- Ability to communicate ideas and explanations clearly, both orally and in writing.
- Ability to work independently, set priorities and meet deadlines.
- Demonstrates ability to maintain the confidentiality of sensitive information and maintain compliance with the Minnesota Data Practices Act, including exercising appropriate judgment in the release or presentation of information.
- Demonstrates ability to understand and respect the diversity of customers and co-workers, effectively communicating with individuals whose first language may be one other than English.
- An Associate’s degree in accounting, finance or closely related field and three (3) years of relevant accounting experience, OR
- A Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or closely related field and two (2) years of relevant accounting experience, OR
- A combination of more years of related experience and education may be considered.
- Strongly desire coursework in accounting.
- Work experience in accounting, preferably in the public sector.

- Specific vision abilities required include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
- Manipulate a keyboard for an extended period of time.
