Technical Administrator / Planning & Design Assistant

Description
This role is ideal for a motivated early-career candidate, school leaver, or administrator with an interest in engineering and infrastructure. It offers a structured development pathway into technical and engineering support activities, with opportunities to progress into Technical Assistant, Design Technician or Designer roles over time.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and monitor departmental work queues and planning tools.
- Maintain project files, documentation and drawing registers.
- Track applications, permissions, approvals and third-party correspondence.
- Coordinate team meetings, prepare agendas and issue minutes and actions.
- Prepare and distribute routine communications and reports.
- Assist with KPI reporting and departmental performance tracking.
- Support administration of departmental systems, processes and procedures.
- Maintain accurate records in accordance with company standards and procedures.
- Support the Planning & Design team in the administration of network development and asset management projects.
- Assist with maintaining asset records, network information and design documentation.
- Support management of engineering drawings and technical records.
- Liaise with internal stakeholders, contractors, suppliers and external organisations to obtain project information.
- Assist with project planning activities, programme updates and reporting.
- Support procurement, document control and project governance activities as required.

- Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Good IT literacy, including Microsoft Office applications.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities.
- Proactive and self-motivated approach.
- Willingness to learn new systems and ways of working.
- Strong record-keeping and administrative capability.
- Experience in an administrative, project support or coordination role.
- Interest in engineering, infrastructure or the utilities sector.
- Experience with document control systems.
- Knowledge of AutoCAD, GIS, mapping systems or technical drawing software.
- Experience working with project or asset management systems.
