Join Our Claims Team

Berkshire Hathaway GUARD Insurance Companies is seeking an experienced and highly motivated Senior Claims Adjuster to manage a portfolio of Employer's Liability claims, with primary responsibility for exposures arising in New York and Illinois. The successful candidate will investigate, evaluate, negotiate, and resolve complex and litigated claims involving allegations of employer negligence, third-party over actions, Labor Law exposures, workplace injuries, and other employer liability matters.

 

What You'll Do

• Handle complex Employer's Liability claims from assignment through closure.
• Investigate liability, damages, coverage, and claim exposure.
• Evaluate medical records, wage loss documentation, expert reports, and legal pleadings.
• Establish appropriate reserves and develop claim resolution strategies.
• Direct defense counsel, experts, and other vendors.
• Identify risk transfer, indemnification, and additional insured opportunities.
• Participate in mediations, settlement conferences, and other resolution proceedings.
• Negotiate settlements and manage high-exposure claim outcomes.
• Collaborate with underwriting, risk control, insureds, brokers, and internal stakeholders.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required; Attorney license preferred.
• Minimum 5 years of casualty, liability, workers compensation, employer's liability, or construction claims experience.
• Experience handling litigated bodily injury claims.
• Strong understanding of negligence principles, liability defenses, and damage evaluation.
• Ability to independently manage a high-severity claim inventory.
• Excellent negotiation, communication, and analytical skills.
• Proficiency with claims management systems and Microsoft Office applications.
• Licensing Requirement: Candidates must hold an active adjuster license or be willing and able to obtain and maintain all required state licenses. The company will support the licensing process, including cost, training and compliance with ongoing continuing education requirements

 

Salary $100,000 - $160,000 + bonus

In accordance with applicable pay transparency laws, this range represents a good‐faith estimate. Final compensation will be determined based on factors such as experience, credentials, geographic location, and other considerations permitted by law.

 

This role may be based out of one of the following locations:

New York, NY; Parsippany, NJ; Conshohocken, PA; Wilkes‑Barre, PA; Alpharetta, GA; Rosemont, IL; Plano, TX; and Scottsdale, AZ.
